Holy smokes! According to your numbers you can't afford much else.

Your "fixed" expenses, as listed, total $1468.86, which means you've only got $131.14 left over after your bills are paid. That's less than $33 a week for savings/incidental expenses/emergencies.

Not a lot to work with there.

You've listed 40/month for "credit card", personally I'd start off by applying the 33/week to your credit card and paying off the balance faster. Once your credit card is paid off I'd redirect that 40/month into a savings account along with part of your incidental money.

It takes time and discipline to put savings together, but in the end it's your money to do with as you please.

Good luck!

Hard to say. Pay all your bills first, then see what you have left. If necessary, cut back on some things that aren't necessities.

Budgeting is a math problem. Who said math wasn't an important subject in school??? It depends on your income and expenses. You certainly can't use rent money to transfer to entertainment so you need a logical ratio of what you can afford... and don't forget to save as well as spend for those unforeseen things like job loss, car troubles, etc. I can't give a ratio because I don't know your bills or priorities but I have taken on a second job to pay for entertainment needs. You could consider that. Also review where your money goes now so you can transfer funds from your wants to your needs and back again. A budget is to your finances like a diet is to weight... if you don't splurge once in a awhile you will get off track. Practice financial fitness!!!

There is no definite percentage. Sit down and do a budget plan for yourself.

Easy really. List all your essential outgoings that must be paid. Subtract that from your total and what is left is the amount that is technically 'yours'.

If you can set aside some money for savings then this will be an advantage. I know it sounds dull, but in future years you will be thankful that you did allow for savings.

Best of Luck. Jo.

What's out of whack is the fact that you're spending over half your income on your car and gas. If you didn't have that cheap rent, you'd be sunk. Its time for you to cut back, not waste more.

What ever is left over after you pay all of your bill and expences.

Try starting with 10%, if you see that you can survive your bills by doing that, then later up it to 15%

You should try to save about 10% of your paycheck. If you really want something, save up for it. If you work where they have automatic payroll deduction, do your saving through that. You won't see the money so can't spend it. My company had a deal where you could put money into an account to buy U.S. savings bonds. They really add up.

I've been told that if you want to save, you should keep a list of all the money you put out as you go about your day. You may be treating yourself more than you realize.

Remember, savings are for this: an emergency, not being able to work or losing your job, and buying something big like a car or house.
