I love my mother very much but when i rcvd a call from collecters stating i have 5 credit cards in my name, i was very upset with her. I dont want to charge her with fraud but i need these neg- reports like over 120 days past due to be off my credit so i can buy a home one day. At least she did Pay off all 5 credit cards but it took her forever which cause more damage. I'm at a lost. Can someone help me? |

This is about as difficult a question as I have seen on this site. And I don't envy you the position you find yourself in.
My only advice would be as follows:
1. Subscribe to the Experian website which allows you to check your credit report (and score) at any time. It also sends an email alert to an address of your choice any time there is a change to your credit report and/or someone searches it. Furthermore you can periodically ask for a credit score (£5 per time) which gives you a fair idea of whether an application for a credit card/loan/mortgage is likely to be successful.
The site also allows you to add a comment regarding any late payments etc. which would allow you to mention the identity fraud without being too specific as to the identity of the fraudster.
The annual subscription is pretty reasonable and, for the price, well worth the peace of mind it provides.
2. I would then contact the credit card companies which issued the cards asking them (under their identify fraud procedures) to ensure that all references to your bad payment history are removed from credit reference agency records.
I would word the letter in such a way that a) they are aware that you have no intention of filing charges against your Mother but b) (reading between the lines) that you consider their security procedures to prevent such fraud to be totally inadequate, and unless they put right the problems caused you are considering suing them.
If this doesn't work I would follow it up with a less ambiguous. harder hitting letter whilst at the same time contacting the financial services ombudsman/

That might sound harsh... but it is the truth. Now YOU have two choices:
1. You dont press charges, which means you have to pay off these bills and wait 7 years for good credit.
2. You report the Identity Theft, you are not held responsible for the charges, but your mom could end up in jail. |

That is identity fraud whether its your mom or not. I would consult a credit consultant or lawyer to see how you can repair the damage. |

Call the police and file a fraud report. Parents or not, these people stole your identity and they only way you can fix it is to prosecute them. Don’t feel bad about it; they weren’t feeling bad while they were screwing up your credit. |

Contact the credit bureaus and ask them to put a fraud alert on your credit at least if she applies for more they won't give her any til you know about it.... Also you can give a statement in the credit report to let creditors be forewarned of MOMMY dearest spending thrift. |

If you do not start formal investigation proceedings immediately your credit will be ruined for LIFE. Now that you know about it, the ball is in your court. If you do nothing, and allow this to happen, things will be very bad for you later. You need to get these cards from her, and destroy them yourself. What a crappy thing to do to you. It's disgusting! |

If you decide not to press charges then you will just have to live with it. I would find out if there may be more that you are not aware of, have your credit pulled, it can't hurt. |
