My husband had to go to the emergency room a week after we lost our insurance. It was $1700. We set up a payment plan where we pay a minimum of $25 a month. Most hospitals will work with you on a payment plan that works for you. You should really pay your bill. |

go to the hospital and ask to negotiaite a preferred
provider rate.......the hospitals charge a lot less to the
insurance companies and since you are coming out of pocket
they should discount your bill to about 600 |

I totally agree with those that tell you to contact the hospital and work something out with them.
If you simply send in payments without having an agreement with the hospital, or ignore the bill, eventually the hospital will probably turn it over to a collector who will place it on your reports and possibly sue.
Hospitals do often work with people as far as taking payments and even reducing the amout owed, but you have to speak with them, get any agreement in writing and stick to the agreement.
If you are low income, hospitals often have lists of different charities that will help pay the bill. |

it won't mess up your credit unless they send the account to collections. see if you can make payments?

By law they had to treat you if it was an emergency, and by law it's your argument to take this to court but if you have no insurance your screwed in the first place my friend. |

they will be mad and they will keep calling you |

The hospital will hound you for awhile. Then turn it over to collections. I would expect a hit on your credit score if you do not pay, especially if a judgement is filed. The hospital provided a service, they should be compensated. |

It will be turned over for collection and listed on your credit report. You can call the hospital business office and tell them you can pay x-amount each month to avoid this. Or you can just not pay it. |

It is not as detrimental as you may think. However, they could put a lien on your home if you own one... if not, I wouldnt sweat it too much. |

It will mess it up pretty bad. I suggest you work . And maybe work out some sort of payment plan with the hospital.

Look, you obviously incurred the debt. Why don't you want to pay it? You obligated yourself by going to the hospital and getting treatment.
What if you went to work, worked for a week or two and then the company said, well, we're not going to pay you for the services you rendered. Would that be fair?
Pay your bill. Set up a repayment plan and stick to it. |

it will count against your credit and they can file a judgement against you and it will never go off your credit even if you pay it. why are you against paying them what you can a month? you got the services you should pay the bill they can take you to court and you will be responsible for all their attorney and collection fees also and they can harass you at work and home all the time. better to call them and make arrangements to pay what you can each month |
|

Taryn

They'll send you to collections and it will mess up your credit. Hard to say "how bad" it would mess you up, but I'd think pretty bad. Not worth ducking the bill. |

in the united states we don't put people in jail for non payment. just pay $20.00- to $50.00 a month remember
if you skip out it will bite you in the worse time. buying a car a house. every one get's medical bills. if nobody paid their would not be hospitals doctors offices.
most credit managers don't look at medical bills that you are paying on.
also they my take a offer of settlement? |

The hospital will have NO MERCY on you. When they treated you for it, they showed compassion, but not when it comes time to pay the bill. |

Your credit doesn't get ruined with just one instance.
Repeated offenses count more than amounts.
Work out a payment plan. |

Not too bad. Eventually they will turn it over to a collection agency, they will call, write, harass, but if you ignore em, don't take calls, or say no hablas anglais, eventually they will leave you alone. |
