Try applying IN PERSON at your bank for a no-fee VISA or Mastercard. Make sure you tell them you have not had a card before and want them to find a way to approve this. Don't ask for a high limit, in fact, tell them to make it no more than $500.
When it arrives, charge something you would buy anyway and when the bill comes in, pay it in full right away.
Use your new card very sparingly and try to pay it off in full each month so the balance doesn't build up. It will create a fine credit reference and enhance your ability to get a loan if you need one to purchase a home or car in the future. |

you can try finding a card at the following site. They do the research and show only the best cards possible. Make sure you apply for a card that is designed for students or for people with no credit history. |

Lance has the correct answer. Stay away from credit cards and don't worship the great fico. All it will bring you is debt. Just look at the way it works.
You have to borrow money and make payments on time to get a high score so that you can borrow money and make payments and pay interest. you also have to keep borrowing money and keep making payments on time to keep a high score. It's an "I Love Debt" score.
The whole credit score thing along with credit cards was designed by banks to get people into debt and keep them in debt.
If you pay as you go. If you live on less money than you make. You will not have payments. You will have money and not have to worship at the alter of the great fico.
Credit cards are the financial worlds cigarette.
Building credit is the biggest joke of the 21st century. |

Any Visa card is good but pay close attention to interest fees and always go with the lowest, but make sure its fixed or after a couple months it will shoot up. |
