Your name wouldn't appear on the credit scoring list, It'll just be stated as no credit at all... Once you start building your credit, you'll start to be issued a score based on your open account's, loans, and any other item that will appear on a regular credit report. |

The August 2006 issue of Consumer Reports stated that not having one or two (not more, not less) credit cards will lower your insurance premiums with some auto insurance companies. They may very well use a different scoring method that others who pull your credit. Remember that the credit reporting agencies do not provide the score--the companies who view your report do.

Credit score is determined based on your available credit and payment history in all credit types. Age of accounts is also a factor, lack of a credit card is not enough information to guess at a score. I suggest getting a free copy of your report from:

If you have student loans, cell phone bills, etc. then you have a credit score. *** Get a credit report every six months to a year and you'll see what open accounts you have. This is also a good way of monitoring identity theft.** |
