What would happen if I asked my bank not to charge me the overdraft fee would they listen?

If you call them and can make a case that you did transfer money into the account, many times they will reverse the fee. You have to watch the account on line and transfer the money with in about a day or so. I've done this a number of times.

If you don't ask, the answer is always "no". I have gotten fees waived over the years by being proactive and calling the bank, cc company, utility, etc...

I first apologize sincerely, and then very nicely ask if they can waive the late fee. I don't think I have ever been refused. Of course, I don't make a habit of it, and I don't make the creditor come after me. Mistakes happen to all of us, and its how we handle them that matters.

maybe, if you have a real good reason, but probably not.

I have had many overdraft fees reversed over the years. This needs to be an actual 'accident' and not something that occurs on a regular basis- or you will have no luck in getting the fees reversed. An occassional oversight is expected- as we are all human.

I would call the 800 number on the back of your debit card first; this will put a note in your account info so if you have to go in and see a teller they will know that you are not letting this slide. Depending on who you bank with there are a couple options:

1.Chase Manhattan will waive overdraft fees if you sign up for overdraft protection.
2.US Bank has a money lending program- if you see that your account is going to be overdrawn you can borrow up to $500 to bring the account back to good (at a $10 per $100 borrowed fee). This fee beats the $35 regular overdraft charges.

You bank will have some sort of program in regards to overdraft protection.

Hope this helps- good luck!

Banks will often do it once as a courtesy. It certainly cannot hurt trying! However, just make sure it doesn't happen again, or it may cost you.

Nope, in fact, I'd watch over your statements. Banks are mega greedy and they will find away to get money out of you.

If it was a one time occurrence and it was truly an oversight they might waive the overdraft fee.

I doubt it because you should never write a check if the money is not in the bank. You knew when you wrote the check that the money wasn't there.
Remember: the checks now clear the bank so fast, usually overnight, be careful, if you continue to do this the bank can and will close your account.
A friend of mines son did that and they closed his account and he also had to go to take class for budgeting and writing hot checks.

May work.......if this is the first time.......and your a good customer........

Usually your bank will take away one overdraft fee per quarter or whatever as a courtesy deal. It all depends on your bank policies, as well as however often you overdraw on your account. They will look at the history of your account. My bank has helped me out like that a few times before. It's worth a shot! Good luck!
