Your best bet is to use a company that specializes in providing credit cards to people with bad credit or no credit. One that I know of is http://www.mortgageous.com/noriskcredit - they help people find all kinds of financing (including credit cards) at the best rates available for their credit score.

You should get a department store credit card first. buy something cheap, like one sweater, make the minimum payments for the first month and then pay it off, that is what my Realtor told me when I was trying to build up credit to apply for a mortgage.

Store cards are similar to credit cards, as you are offered a credit limit to let you spend on the card. But unlike credit cards, store cards are valid only in the specific store or group of stores that have offered you the card. Basically, you are given credit to buy at a specific store or various related stores by using their special credit card.

What are the advantages?

To attract people to get a card restricted to a single store, the retailer offers lot of discounts or special offers. These can consist of a free gift, or discounts on purchase prices when you use the card. If you buy from the shop frequently, this card can lead to big savings on your necessary goods when you use these cards. Another advantage of store cards is that getting it is quite easy even though your credit history is bad. This allows you to restore your credit history.

my company has visa, emerge and aspen. the aspen accounts and aspire are for people who have no credit or bad credit. our web site is www.myaspencard.com, www.aspirevisacard.com. if you happen across one of these credit cards...REMEMBER; YOU WILL HAVE AN ANNUAL FEE OF $150.00 ADDED ON THE ACCOUNT AS SOON AS YOU OPEN IT. WITH A $300.00 LIMIT. YOU'LL BE CHARGED A $29.00 OPENING ACCT FEE TOO. THIS MEANS THAT YOU ONLY HAVE $121.00 AVAILABLE. MAKE AT LEAST A $200.00 payment on the first payment there after you won't get over limit after a month or so. then make your payment every month...$40.00 or so. and when you make a purchase on the account then cover that purchase for that payment. keep the account paid up for about 2 years or so then you have established several points on your credit score. good luck to you. if you ahve any questions about these accounts feel free to e-mail me at princesswhitepaw@yahoo.com

Store credit cards are pretty easy to get. Also if you a student, you can try for a student credit card.

A secure credit card you can get w/ no prob. The rules and limits vary, but my first one I put $200 down and had a $200 limit. After 6 months they automatically raised my limit and at that point I switched to an unsecure and they took the $200 and paid off my card and sent me the change.
