When is the best time to pay off a credit card ?
Is it better to pay off a credit card , as soon as the purchase can be seen through the online banking site or should I wait until a due date is shown ?

Pay it ASAP.

Interest rates will get ya.

Pay in full from your savings when it is due, but no earlier. The longer the money stays in your account before it leaves, the more interest it earns. All you need do is get the full payment there by the due date to avoid interest charges, so cut it as close as you can. Effectively, they are extending you an interest free loan if you pay by the due date, which can be up to as much as 50 days from the date you made the charge, about 25 days at most for the charge to appear on your account and 25 days or so until it becomes due. The best way to pay is an online transfer so you can time it to the day before the payment is actually due and be sure of your timing. I pay my credit card through an online transfer in exactly this manner, always in full, so I never incur a finance charge. I negotiated long ago to waive the annual fee they used to charge, so I have totally free use of my credit card and the whole time the money is in my savings, it earns interest for me instead of the bank. It takes dedication to detail and personal discipline to make this work for you, but it certainly can be done as I am doing, by anyoone else who cares to try.

1. Use the credit card only when absolutely essential. Pay your regular expenses by cash or a debit card. This will help you budget and not go overboard with credit card debt.

2. Follow repayment schedules like religion. Don't miss out and invite late payment fees, increased APR rates and blocked reward programs.

3. Don't stick to the monthly minimum payment. Pay the maximum you can afford and get that outstanding debt cleared as fast as possible. By just paying the monthly minimum the credit card companies reap the maximum rewards while, as a consumer you pay the maximum interest.

4. Get rid of multiple credit cards. Although this might sound difficult, but if you are struggling to repay on time and, juggling with the repayment dates is causing you to default- it's time to think. If there is a genuine need to keep multiple credit cards, then try to automate their monthly payments. This will ensure that you don't default unwillingly and face the negative consequences. AS SOON AS YOU ARE ABLE TO.

most credit cards charge you interest after the 20th day so you are losing money to wait for the bill.

ASAP.

I have found that in my husband and I situation that when we pay as soon as we made the purchase it looks better. They like to see on your credit report that you have a low balance on your credit card at all times. not just that you have a credit card.

shoredude2
Find out what the grace period is. If interest accrues from the time of purchase ASAP. However, if you start the cycle with a zero balance, you may have until a couple of weeks after the billing date to pay without accruing interest depending on the account agreement.

atleihs momma
you should always pay it off as soon as you can because it looks better on your credit plus you know that u have all you bills out of the way and paid off like that instead of taking a chance to foget about it and accidentally pay on it late

I f you aren't sure when to pay your debt, I would suggest you not use a credit card until you figure it out. This lack of knowledge will eventually cost you hundreds of dollars down the road.

I guess if you don't plan to make anymore purchases for the month you could pay off the one you made when you notice it.

Why not just wait until the end of the month and pay off the full balance? Then they can't sock all that interest to you and make all that money. I'd also wait so there's no payment discrepancies or confusions for them...cause we all know how creditors are. lol.

You should only spend on your card... what you could afford to spend if you didn't have the card. If that makes sense.

No...check to see how many interest free days you have after the bill is issued - normally it's a minimum of 30 days. Pay it then - why would you want the bank to use your money for any longer than necessary?

It depends on whether or not finance charges will accrue. If you pay your bill in full every month, then it makes sense to wait as long as possible to pay the bill assuming you have an interest bearing checking account.

Only if you will owe finance charges, does it make sense to pay immediately.

that's a pretty dumb question. obviously you should pay any debt as soon as you can.
