SAN
When it comes to credit cards, which is best?
During this season I am out there buying gifts for everyone. I want to know which is best. Should I wet a credit card from each store lets say one from IKEA, one from GAP etc. Or just get one as Capital One, Master Card, or Visa. And which one is best.

You should spread your spending around, never exceed 30% of your credit limit and pay in full (if you can) before the due date.

This is what's best for your credit score.

They are all good at putting you in dept. take your pick.

There is no one answer. You need to look at interest rates and see what your would be. I recently got a Discover card with 0% interest for 1 year. As long as you pay off your balance in that year, you will be fine. Otherwise you end up paying double for your purchases in the long run.

To find the rewards card that will pay you the most for your overall spending profile, you can use this rewards calculator:
http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/

Note that the calculator converts all reward currencies (frequent flier miles, points, cash back) to dollars for an apples-to-apples comparison.

Pay as you go and live on less than you make and you will have money.

Don't play the credit card game. They make all the rules and can change the rules in the middle of the game. And it is a game. If you play sooner or later you will get behind and start losing at the game. Once you start losing at the credit card game its hard to get out of the game. High inerest rates that they can raise for any reason. Outrageous late fees and over the limit fees. Not to mention identity theft.

Of course the bankers and their loyal followers on here are gonna tell you different.

Dont obsess with the I love debt score.
Debt free is the way to be.
Borrower is always slave to the lender. Always!

I'd stay away from Capital One (and while you're at it, any card associated with HSBC/Orchard Bank) unless your credit is bad. Actually I'd stay away from them period. They're a predatory lender. They refuse to report your credit limit which adversely affects your credit score. Part of your FICO score is the ratio of outstanding balance to available credit.

You should go to your bank or credit union and apply for a visa or mastercard. A credit union will have the best rates. You should go with the best rates and pay the card off in full each month so you don't get hit with interest rate charges.

You also need to do the research yourself. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before signing your life away.

edit:

I don't know why three fools gave me a thumbs down. The girl asked what are the best cards and I have told the truth. Must be marketing reps for Orchard/HSBC or Capital One on this forum. Maybe they don't realize how many people those companies have screwed over.
