When you have a debit card?
and you use it as a credit card to buy things online, does the company mail a bill to your house? Or, do they just bill it to the credit/debit card company and there is never actually a paper bill sent out?

Stuart
A debit card (even though it carries a Mastercard or Visa or whatever logo) is just basically a check.

When you use the debit card, it's just like writing a check, except that the transaction goes through faster.

So, no, you're not sent a bill. The only record of the transaction you'll see is on your bank statement - usually sent out once a month. It will usually show as a debit card transaction, or as an ATM transaction.

memphis
dont use credit cards

I see from all these answers. Some people still don’t know how debit cards work. Regardless of how it is use it comes out of your checking account. If your US debit card has a Visa or MasterCard symbol you can use at most places in the US that takes Visa or Master Card. It can also work at merchants that just take debit cards. Just look on the back of or front of your card for any of these networks. Nyce, Cirrus, Interlink, Maestro, Visa Plus, Visa delta, Visa Electron, Star and others. Some merchants do not take the international network Maestro or Visa because of their no surcharge rule. At some stores you can choose credit than you would sign for your purchase. If you choose debit you would enter you pin number and no signature is required. This is why there is confusion when you go out of the US. Some merchants assume it is not a credit card and try to run it as a debit -It does work in some cases, in other cases it wont. You need to keep track of your purchase and keep enough money in your checking account to cover your purchases and any authorization charges. Your bank can tell you how to use your card. I keep double the purchase plus $5.00 in my account

AtiaoftheJulii
They bill your debit card. And they send you a receipt for your purchases.

Mofo21
it is automatically taken out of your checking account. The only paperwork you get is the bank statement for that month.

mel
no, it comes right out of your checking account.

your bank should have the deduction online. that is, if you have online banking and you can check your account status.

Lindsay
I think it just comes straight out of your checking account, you don't get a bill..I haven't

smokewizzle44
It comes out of your debit, and you are sent a monthly statement.(not a bill though)

No paper involved except for you bank statement. Everytime you swipe your debit card, those funds come directly from your account.

Chris
almost 100% of the time they take it straight out of your of your bank account....

its deducted from the account directly and it shows on your statement that is mailed to you or you can check your account by checking it online

Irish1952
A debit card is a form of paperless check. The money comes directly from your checking account. You won't get a bill since you will have already paid.

Julzz
if its a debit card and used as credit then the money is taken out of your account. Most Debit Cards are set up to be withdrawn from checking accounts. So you use the card at a shop and its like wrighting a check except the money comes out faster. Hope your not overdrawn!

Amanda D
it comes directly out of your bank account and you get a bank statement every month

Shannon T
They bill it to the credit/debit card company.

I have a debit MasterCard but always use t as a credit card because they don't charge me the one dollar debit fee per transaction. If you use your debit as credit they will still take it out of your bank account, but it usually isn't instant like a debit, it takes about 48 hours. You won't receive a anything by mail other than your monthly balance sheet from your bank. It will show this activity. On your end you just need to track it, because it pulls $$ directly from your bank account and if you don't keep track of it or keep the receipts you can get in trouble with insufficient funds

no paper bill sent out. just gets deducted from your checking account.

chubbiguy40
You will receive a paper receipt, But not a bill.

No bill is sent out, you can only use it as a credit card if you have an agreed overdraft w. the bank otherwise they will hit you w. all kinds of charges.

tysgrandma99
when using the debit card at any store use it as a credit card first you don't pay the fee.and when you get your bank statement it will show up then.no you never get a bill.nothing but the bank statement.

amosunknown
Its an electronic transfer from your checking account, the only paper you see is your monthly bank statement.

spot
It is debited to your account just like when you use the card as debit card. The bank gives you the option of using it as a credit card because some place only takes credit card. However, on your part, it makes no difference. Advice: when you use the credit card option of your debit card, you will NOT get any benefit. Even if you have a charge dispute, once it's debited, the bank won't do anything for you. If you lose your original receipt, the bank will not be able to give you anything. That is why I never use my debit (debit or credit) card for online shopping or for items that I may have to return/exchange later. Use your regular credit card for those.

A debit card is connected directly to a checking or savings account. You don't get a bill. Until you overdraw it.

No, it comes right out of your checking account no bill. The only thing you should get from your bank is a statement at the end of the month saying what stores or companies money was deducted from.

Chris
When you use your debit as a credit card, it comes directly out of your checking. If you don't have overdraft protection, charges will apply for not having enough money in the account.

there is no paper or bill involed. they debit the money right out of your account instantly. hence the word debit card.

A debit card automatically deducts any purchases from your checking or savings account at your bank (depending on which account is tied to your debit card). There is never actually a paper bill, but usually the company you ordered the product from will send an invoice with the item that your ordered. When you get your bank account statement the purchase will be listed there as an electronic payment.

NIKKI K
you get a confirmation number, then on your bank statement, it shows the charge

Kitty

It is directly deducted from your checking/savings acct...If you order something that is delivered it will have a packing list and invoice enclosed, that shows proof of purchase and serves as a receipt

What I'd like to know is why this Stuart guy makes all his answers say "Typing".

Oh, I get it. He puts down "typing" so he can get one of the first spots on the answers list, then edits it and gives a real answer. That makes sense now...

Arcie
using credit cards, its bill should be billed monthly if you were failed to settle the account you used. Monthly bill reminds you how much you currently owe.
