Where can I apply for a Loan???
I would like to apply for a small loan (no more than £500).

Can anyone recommend good sources with a not so huge APR???

Thanks Friends

For that amount, rather than a loan, try and get whatever it is you need on a 0% interest credit card. Just make sure you can pay it off before the interest free period expires.

Loans for very small amounts usually cost a lot because there will be a minimum admin overhead that the loan company needs to cover.

Some people think that it does not cost the bank to process a loan. I worked in banking for several years and I processed several loans. It DOES cost to process loans. You have the employees time, paper, cost of putting it on the system, (cost more if you have an outside source processing the paperwork) printing of payment book and time and expense of late notices and telephone calls. So most banks anymore will not make loans as small as $500.00. They will push you towards applying for a credit card and using it. Most bank credit cards have a rate of from 9.99 on up now. Ask if the bank has any specials running, such as 2.99% up to 5.99 % for new card holders. If you get the card and you have a checking account with that bank, ask the employee about "overdraft protection or constant credit". This will save you lots of money if your checking should become overdrawm. There is a fee of from $2 ti $10.00 for the transfer from credit card, but that is still way cheaper than $25 or $30 per check if you are overdrawn. Also some banks, offer a overdraft protection from your savings account, if you have a savings account. The commom person would not know all these things. Check with a banking friend before doing anything and find out what options you may have. You will find yourself saving quite a bit of money. Hope this helps and explains.

One important thing about a loan is where are the banks money being invested in. I have a ethical bank called the Co-op bank and I may not get the best APR but at least I know the bank is not involved in war, rouge states, unethical companies or companies that are harming the environment for profits.

the bank of mom and dad is where my children go,and they swear by it. no interest, no penalties for late or none payment, open all hours and will lend monies on the most trite of their fancies including Chinese, fish and chips cinema tickets... i could go on but, failing that try any other close family member.

Zopa are not a bank they are people like me and you who either have money to save or to borrow, as long as you have a good credit history it won't be a problem and the best thing is that the people who put up the money (savers) get the return from your borrowing not a Bank!!!!

what kind of loan are you looking for? Personal?

my first bit of advice is check interest rates with credit cards and banks and when you talk to people don't let them pull your credit report until you have done your homework. The more inquiries you have on your credit report the more it will hurt you.

also The interest rate will depend upon your score with the three major credit reporting agencies.

Here are some tips for you before you start looking.
know your credit score
you can get a free copy frm each agency
www.experian.com. www.transunion.com,

I can't remember the third one, but find out this information first.

If you score is in the 500's you interest rate is going to be higher. if your score is in the 600's than your interest rate will be better.

If you dnt want to research your score here is an easier way to determine your credit score
do you pay your bills on time?
how much do you owe creditors?
do you have any collections, bankrupticies, repos?

if you have a good re payment history and no collections, repos or b.k then try a bank like Washington Mutual or Wachovia.

If you have some collection try capitol one
