Where can i file a complaint against a credit card company for over charging me?
I paid my credit card bill online, and through a mistake it was returned overdrafted. I immediately re-paid it for the same amount. The credit card company then re-sent the first payment that was originally bounced back through and credited my account. I called them and explained the situation and they told me they had no way of knowing which payment was accepted b/c I wanted to cancel the second one. I called my bank and put a stop payment on the charge that haden't gone through and now the credit card company is giving me another no funds charge of 44 dollars (2 total), and they're trying to re-send it again, even though it was reported as stop payment. I'm getting no answer from their supervisors and was wondering if there is anyone I can send a complaint to?

Report the credit card issuer to the Comptroller of the Currency. Phone number is 202-874-4700.

Report the company to your state's attorney general's office. You can find links to your state's AG website at naag.org. Your state might allow you to file a complaint online. This is probably the most effective complaint to make as it is the attorney general's who have filed most of the lawsuits against credit card companies. For example, it was the California AG who sued Providian and forced them to pay the largest judgment against a credit card company ever.

Report the company to the Better Business Bureau. Submit your case for dispute resolution online at www.bbb.org.
Report the company to banking regulators. Their mailing address is Division of Credit Practices, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission, Washington, D.C. 20580 or file a complaint online at www.ftc.gov.

Hope this answers your question

Instead of trying to explain this very confusing set of circumstances over the phone, send a letter detailing the problem. But you need to be clear. Include dates to distinguish the transactions. Ask that they remove the return funds charge.

I strongly advise that you no longer use their website to pay your bills online. This is exactly the kind of problems that happen and you don't have much paper trail or ability to check.

It is much better to use online billpay thru your own bank account. Most large banks offer it free of charge. You can schedule payments in advance, including recurring items like rent, to auto pay. Yet you still can change or cancel any payment up to a couple days before the due date.

Consider filing a written complaint with your state attorney general's office.
Also, consider filing a written complaint with the credit card company itself. Sometimes their rules require complaints to be written, in any case they must keep records of all complaints they receive.
Also, you may want to post a complaint at the following website http://www.badcreditcards.org/
Also, you may want to see if you can get any results by using the Federal Consumer Credit complaint, you can use the following link http://www.idfpr.com/dfi/ccd/ccd_complaint.asp
I wish you the best.

You've lost me, but I suggest you contact your attorney general's office.

Just a thought, try filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Companies don't like to have complaints on their records, so they might (maybe...) bend over to resolve the issue.

Try going through the Better Business Bureau. They are extremely efficient at solving problems between business and customer. A few years ago, I had a complaint against Cingular for a bill error, that was their fault. Like you, I was unable to resolve the issue with the company itself. I contacted the BBB, filed a complaint, and within the week, the PRESIDENT of Cingular was calling MY PHONE! The issue was resolved in 3 minutes, right then and there! No company wants to be hassled by the BBB. I would strongly recommend it, especially since there's no charge to you.
