angel_baby | Where can i get a car loan with low interest? |
I have ok credit and have been approved but the interest is 15%. That seems really high. Is that average? Wheres the best place to get a loan? I live In Indiana if that makes a difference. Additional Details Theres no story to tell. My credit isnt horrible. I had a credit card while in college that I got behind on payments. I've paid it off now and thats whats bringing me down. I was behind for like 6 months but once I started working I paid it off. Am I really a high risk borrower for that? I make over $70,000 a year they should know Im able to make the payments. |

It does not matter where you are from. However, 15% for a new car purchase may be okay depending on your credit score. Under 600 it is good. Over 650 and you should be getting something better. However, don't just look at the rate!!! Look at how long the term is and what the payments are.
If you pay 78 months on a 7% car loan you are paying a lot more money to own your car then if you pay 36 months at 12%.
Here's the problem, if you have not bought a car before, it doesn't matter what your credit score is. Because your fico is adjusted for auto and home purchases. Lending institutions want to see a previous car loan that you paid well on before they give you a 4% loan.
Debt to income ratio comes into play as well. You need to be lower than 45% in most cases.
Lending institutions have complicated risk calculators these days.
As to where to get the best loan: if you have great credit (700+) go to your local bank. The best rates come through the dealer as well. Good luck. |

15% isn't good. see www.bankrate.com for rates. |

That is a high interest rate. When I got my current auto loan in 2006 I really wasn't as knowledgeable about finances, and didn't have a plan. My interest rate is 14.75%. If I were to continue to pay on the schedule (5 years) it would be paying back over $6000 more on the loan (it was for $15,000+). Needless to say I will have the car paid off much earlier, like by the end of this year earlier! |

it's all based on your credit score and debt, income level, etc - to get a low rate, you need great credit - cars are probably worse than mortgages in that respect |

Getting a new car loan is not easy though it can be the easiest way to attain your dream car. There are many players in the car finance industry and for the consumer choosing the best<!--type of loan is a difficult task. Many factors have to be considered before taking up a car loan. Whether you want to take up a loan or not, will depend upon the car you want to buy.

Since the rates of interest on different cars vary so the type of loan that you need will depend on the car you want. The total cost of the new car loan does not include only the interest payable but also-->extra charges such as processing, transaction fees, documentation fees or any other fees. So one has to confirm with the financer as to the other charges that accompanies an auto loan. |

Indiana isn't the problem. Your not telling the whole story as credit lending institutions base the rate upon the risk they are taking. I would suggest going to your bank and finding out where they are at with you.
Good luck |
