Credit cards are not the only way to build your credit. No company will let you sign for a credit card. You'd have to have your parents get you one. When you're 18 you can get a credit card. There's other ways to build your credit. Like paying all your bills on time.

At 17, you have as much legal authority to sign a credit card as your pet bulldog.
Oh wait, the credit card companies are giving cards to dogs these days.
But seriously, go to www.daveramsey.com and see what a wonderful life you can have without credit cards.

Because of your age and probable lack of credit history it will be necessary for some parental assistance to sign the forms.
I would recommend starting off with a secured credit card. This means that you deposit X amount of money in the bank as collateral for the credit card and your credit limit will most likely be the same as the deposit.
Pay off your credit card bill on time in full every month and after 6 months contact the bank and notify them of your responsibility and they will most likely upgrade you to a unsecured credit card.
A big part of your credit score is length of credit history so make sure to never close that credit card and you will have a lengthy credit history when it comes time for you to sign a mortgage and you will be far above the curve.
Best of luck to you.

It is great to see that you want to attempt to build your credit rating at a young age, you have a responsible attitude towards your finances.
I would go in to your current bank and ask an account manager to take you through your options. And if all else fails and there is nothing your bank can do to get you a card, credit card companies will issue cards to as many people as they can, try out whatever you think will get the job done!

http://cards.hotusa.org - try this one. I personally use their cards.
It is also very good to build credit rating. They allow joint account with a cosignator (you will need one cause you are 17).

its best to learn how to save then to build up your credit. You will have a more peaceful life if you stay away from CC's.
as long as you can. These people just find ways to charge you. Just save and learn more about investments. IRA's and CD's. I wish my parents tought me about these instead of CC's.
