Where can i get a credit card from if i have no credit histroy, and no job "on book"?
I have a job, getting paid cash, and i would easily be able to afford the credit card, but i have no credit history and no job on the books, and was already turned down by citibank, and capital one credit card. Any advice as to where i can get one in these conditions, preferably visa or mastercard? Thanks in advance.

a prepaid card scores over credit cards especially if the owner has a not so perfect credit history.

The rejection is non existent in case of prepaid credit cards, there are no credit checks, no employment verification, and approval is guaranteed.

With a bit of dilligent shopping and comparision of various prepaid credit card offers, it is not difficult to find a prepaid card with no annual fees, no late payment fees, no repayments, and no penalties whatsoever. So, the ownership costs of a prepaid card can be negligible.

With prepaid cards it is very easy to promote financial discipline. Since you can only spend what you have, there is no overspending, and hence no debts.

Some prepaid cards do report their use to major credit bureaus and hence are a good instrument to rebuild credit history.

Prepaid cards have wide acceptablility, and in some cases they are even more readily accepted than credit cards. Apply online at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/PrePaid_Card.html

get a legal job so A) you have work history and B) you pay your taxes because not doing so is breaking the law its called tax evasion. Usually you can get a secured credit card from you bank. I know bank of America offers one. Basically you put money upfront (about $200) and have to pay back what you use every month it builds credit.

So I hope you are reporting your income to the IRS. If you are not then as part of the "underground economy" you will probably have to remain underground.

If you are reporting your income, then just report your income on your application. You will probably have to start out with something like a secured card. This is where you put a deposit into an account. The bank will then give you a credit line to match. For this Orchard Bank is a good one to start off with.

If you're a college student, then you can get student cards pretty easily. You can compare them here: http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/?card_type=College+Student
The Citi mtvU card and Citi Driver's Edge for Students are both very good rewards cards for students.

Otherwise, try Orchard Bank (a division of HSBC).

If you haven't established credit yet, your best bet is to go with companies such as Capital One where you will pay a monthly fee for using it like $5 dollars or something. Basically today anybody can get a credit card!

Gas cards are the easiest to get, or you can open a checking account and get a debit card that doubles as a mastercard or visa. If you don't want to use your own money, then apply for a card like a dept store card. make some payments on time, and everyone will start sending you preapproved cards... There goal, the banks, is to keep you broke!! so beware of credit cards......
