Everyone needs a credit card but the people who get ripped off are the ones who either get too many credit cards or they get one and max it out instantly...(that can lead to worse things). So if you have no credit, there are plenty of options for you. Get a small one and use it for small balances then pay it off. Do that each month. Credit cards should only be used for emergencies and to build credit so you can eventually get a car loan or a home loan. If you don't have money for the shoes you really want, then don't get them. Use cash or a debit card for those. Don't ever use a credit card for huge clothing purchase or other useless stuff like that..use cash. But anyway, just starting out, you can buy a few small useless things and pay it right off so you can build you credit. I would go to this site www.peoplesavehere.com and you can compare credit cards and pick one. They will have a credit card for you for people with no credit. |

Capital One and Barclaycard are pretty good at giving cards to folk with low or poor credit ratings. Probably start with Cap 1, imho.

It will also depend on how old you are and your employment. You can apply for a Visa or Master Card and see what they say. They may give you a low limit card with a high interest rate to start. Use it but be sure to pay in full before the due date. If you have no luck with them apply for a department store card or a gas card. They tend to be more liberal at giving credit. Use them but pay off the balance every month. After 3-6 months you will begin to have a credit history which will make it easier to get credit in the future. |

If you are in college, you automatically qualify for a student card. If you have a bank account, start with your bank... if you don't have a bank account, get one. Also any affiliations you have may qualify you. My first credit card was from my fraternity affiliation. |
