★~Eric~ ☆ | Which Credit Card Do U Recommend? |
Ok, My parents have always let me use and have there credit cards but now that im on my own I want my very own. I am very responsible when it comes to spending but theres just one thing, Since I am young and do not have very much credit esablished im afraid that I wont be able to get approved for one.
My question to you, especially you younger people with there own, is what Company do you recommend me try to get a card through? I am not a student right now and I am not interested in rewards or anythings... just a basic low rate card.
Thanks. |

there is a lot to consider about a card besides if it is visa or mastercard.
First let me go into how to get credit rating. This is good if you young or have bad credit.
Get one of the cards that you pay upfront. Use it monthly for items you have cash for like a utility bill.
Pay off the card before the 30 days or what every limit they put on being without interest charges.
Do this for minimum of six months.
they will give you a good report to the credit agency.
after that you will be receiving all sorts of cards to choose from.
Next save some money in your savings account. The more in the account the better, minimum of $500.
then do a secured personal loan against that money. and pay it off religiously for 6-8 months. check with your bank how long you have to have the loan before the report to the credit agency. also make sure the loan does not have a early payoff penalty.
once that is paid off you credit limit will go up.
so do another loan, this time partially secured for a larger amount.
Follow the same process.
Ok now cards.
most cards you get will have a introductory interest and fees.
Make sure you did down thru the small print to find what you will be charged after that period.
Next look at the interest policy if you make a late payment.
some will jack your interest rate up to above 20-30%.
Look for continuous fees and special fees that they don't put up front, like uses in certain establishments.
also look for cards with out special feature, like earn credits for special stuff they offer. YOU are paying for the feature.
Happy card hunting. |

Bad strategy. You definitely get a card and use it as much as you can afford, and pay it off every month, establish a good credit rating. Credit card interest is bad and you'll dig yourself into a hole.
Go for the rewards, either cash or air points. I think Chase freedom is the best. |

TO ALL WHO SAID VISA OR MASTERCARD... let the truth be known,... they dont issue credit cards hahahahah, the banks (big banks) offer credit cards, and use VISA or MASTERCARD to process the cards...
Now you all learned something new today. |

There are a few things to keep in mind with credit cards.
First, be aware of the differences between Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere, but some types may require an annual fee. American Express and Discover are much less popular with retailers because they charge the companies more, but that means you may be able to get a card without an annual fee.
Second, make sure you are very aware of the APR (annual percentage rate). If you cannot afford to pay off the entire credit card bill each month (the best way to save yourself money), then you need to get a card with the lowest possible interest rate. Anything over 12% APR will end up costing you a lot of money so be careful.
Third, don't get the largest credit limit you are offered. Start with something small so that things don't get out of control. If you have a lot of credit card debt as a college student, by the time you are out of college you may have debts so large you cannot escape them! (Just read about this debt crisis anywhere.) Some people in their thirties are paying off huge debts they racked up in college instead of buying their first house or a new car.
Good luck! You can start with any major bank and ask them for a credit card application to get started: Capital One, Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo, Wachovia, etc. |

If you have no credit rating go for a gas card, pay it regularly for a couple of months, then upgrade...major companies have this, like sunoco and gulf. |

From my experience, the first card someone your age would be offered would be from capitalone or possibly a store card with a very low credit line. But again from my experience, capitalone has a LOT of different cards to offer, and they treated me well enough that I've never switched despite at least ten other offers to date. I can't see myself ever switching because they have a card for pretty much everybody. And one more thing, I wouldn't deliberately attempt to obtain a credit card if you doubt your approval. If you must establish credit, look into secured cards first, just make sure you shop around. |

Visa. It's accepted everywhere credit cards are. |

Get a VISA credit card from a bank that is near to the places where you normally go.
This way you can easily transact ( ie. payments, cash advance ) |

The two major credit cards, Visa and Mastercard, are issued by banks. They control the rates and service you will get. The best place to go is the same bank that you have your checking and savings with. The brand of card does not matter.

If you have a bank , get one from a bank . The interest is lower than regular companies or retail credit cards . |

if you have a checking account check with your bank since you will already be considered an established customer and that helps. Most of the time you won't be subject to annual fees when you get them through the banks and intrest rates just depends if they have specials or not.
If you do not get approved for a regular c.c (lack of credit) they have what is called a secured c.c. and what you have to do with that is deposit a min of 300-500 towards the c.c. and in 18 months if they see that you used your card, made your monthly payments on time and did not go over your limit they return your money back to you and they give you their own credit limit. That is the best way to establish your credit...
Hope this helps. |
