A friend of mine was discharged from her bankruptcy early december last yr and wants to get a visa card so she can pay for goods in shops and over the net.She doesnt want an overdraft or any credit, she just wants to be able to use it for the above. |

she will struggle to get a visa debit card, because it uses the same credit system a visa credit card uses.
however she should be able to get a visa electron card. I got mine from the Halifax after I came out of my bankruptcy.
electron gets taken from your account immediately so they can check you have the money in there, whereas visa debit can take up to 6 months to come out of your account (usually 2 days) so you might go overdrawn.
electron is fine for paying online, most places take it, and its accepted in Tescos and Asda and petrol stations so you covered there as well. |

I think you probably need to advice get a pre-paid credit card. There are quite a few ones around: Visa, Master Card, Cirrus and even American Express pre-paid credit card. Google it! |

Most banks wont to be honest - but you can get pre paid master cards. You put the money on and you can use them like a debit card! |

If she has any good track records with any banks, that would be her best bet.(obviously not the one she got into trouble with!) But failing that I think it will be pretty hard to obtain one.
I have a friend too who was bankrupt, it took them 7 years before they could even have an account again.
It sucks because not everyone becomes bankrupt out of choice, yet companies do black mark you if you have. |

Do you mean just a debit card? She will have to wait until her bank account has been running ok for a while before she gets anything but cashcard. If your talking credit card, only those with massive interest rates will give her anything, and even then they might not. |

Sorry i dont know anyone who is bankrupt. but i would go out on a limb and say citi bank or bank of america. bank of america is giving credit to immigrants, anybody is better than immigrants. |
