Ameet D | Which card is better Mastercard or Visa? Why? |

There's not really much of a difference between Visa & Mastercard. The more important thing to look for is the bank that is backing the card, i.e. Chase, Citibank, etc. I think it is the bank/financial institution that determines what interest rates and rewards programs to offer. |

This a good question. The truth is they are both very good. There are many flavors of each. You need to research the bank that backs up the card you are using. Read the fine print and take your time deciding what is best for you. |

I like mastercard because I get a gas rebate, and I like my wife's visa because we get REI rebate. Its all about the extras. Extras aside I would go with Visa because it is most internationally accepted. |

As far as I am concerned, they are equivalent. |

coming from having both, visa and mastercard i would have to say visa, i mean making sure it is a rewards card is a bonus but also be sure of the bank you have it with, the bank i have mine with in New Zealand sure makes me think visa was a good move .. :) |

visa cause i have a higher credit limit with them |

It is all your prudence in spending depending on the rewards offered by either of the brands. I see world wide acceptance for both |

I'd say it's important to have both (assuming one can be responsible enough to have two cards and not run them up) I worked for a utility company where people can pay over the phone with credit cards and we actually stopped taking Visa cards. This got a lot of people in trouble because they only had a Visa and couldn't get their bill paid. So I always try to have a Visa and a Mastercard handy, in case one isn't accepted. |

Actually, I'd like to suggest another card: Discover! I get 2% back of my purchases -- cold hard cash -- every year. So, I try to pay for everything with it. So, if I use it to pay for $100,000 worth of bills, groceries, purchases in a year, I get a check for $2,000 that year. This is not a credit; it's an actual check that I deposit in my bank. I realize you asked about visa vs. mastercard, but I wanted to mention Discover in case you weren't aware of its award program. |

Either, as long as it's a rewards card! |
