the one you will get will depend on your credit history and score. If you have no credit or bad credit then you will get a card with a high interest rate, high annual fee (as well as ofter fees "maybe") and a small limited credit limit. You said you are wanting to get your first card so it may not be a good one. First cards are $6-$10 a month, 19-23% interest with a credit limit of $200 - $500. The top cards are American Exspress , Discovery and some pretty high class capital one and Chase cards. You need good or excellent credit to get those no first time card getter like you can get those. Your first card can be any card because it will not be that good. You may not even qualify for a credit card. First get your credit report and credit score.

here are the score ranges:
* 760-850 Excellent
* 700-759 Very Good
* 660-699 Good
* 620-659 Marginal
* 580-619 Poor
* 500-579 Very Poor

I second that about the Washington Mutual....they are very good in terms of letting you build a credit history. However , if you already have a good credit history then you're options are pretty open

American Blue Express Credit Card: Apart from no annual fee feature of the American Blue Express it also gives cash returns on specific purchases. Users of the American Blue Express also enjoy protection against fraud for online credit card transactions. This card tries to right the various wrong notions about the American Express credit cards, one of which is that it is a credit card only for rich or those who have money to keep a credit card.

Debt Slayer
The best way to prepare for an emergency is with an emergency fund. Save up 3-6 months worth of living expenses in a savings or money market account. When a real emergency hits, you don't want the added stress of debt (credit card).
