Jo C | Which credit card is the best for transferring over balances ? |
I was looking to change my credit card so I could be interest free for a year, however I was wondering if there was a limit to how much money you can transfer and any costs? |

While you are searching and comparing 0% balance transfer cards, bear the following in mind.
1. Try to get a card with no balance transfer fee for the introductory offer.
2. get one with a 0% offer for at least 12 months.
3. If you are looking to do the 0% arbitrage - (ie borrow 0% from credit card company and put it in a fixed deposit), get a card that gives you a 0% deal for advance checks as well.
4. make sure the rate is low after the intro period.
5. enroll in automatic payment because one skipped payment and your apr goes up to regular or default rate!

I am not sure there is any single one, as there are lots of cards that offer interest free periods on balance transfers. Perhaps you should consider being a rate tart and gradually apply for different cards as your interest free period on each card starts to run out. I gather Halifax does 9 months 0% interest free on balance transfers at the moment though. |

If you have good credit... do a yahoo search for no fee balance transfer. Most credit card companies charge 3% to tranfer.
There are deals that won't charge you any money and you can transfer the money for 12 months with 0% APR. If you contact the bank, they won't be able to give you this special.
Good luck! |

It depnds on how much you want to transfer, how much you will continue to spend on credit and also your credit rating. The best place to find out about credit cards and all other money related issues is on the moneysavingexpert website, you can find out the current best deals and also sneaky loopholes |

YOU NEED TO SHOP AROUND A BIT. YOU VERY RARELY GET A FULL YEAR INTEREST FREE, THEY USUALLY GIVE YOU NINE MONTHS. ALL THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY'S HAVE THERE OWN DEALS, JUST LOOK AND SEE WITCH ONE YOU WOULD PREFER. ITS BEST TO GET A KNOW NAME. |
