The only good credit card is no credit card. Credit card companies exist to rip off the average consumer. Don't let them take your money!

You might want to compare them and pick the best one for you http://www.bestcreditrates.net

The best one you can get is one with a low interest rate. 7.99% fixed is a great one to have. Remember to try to pay it off in full every month. Never be late. Remeber that the things you do now will affect your future credit score and if you make good decisions now, it will pay off will lower mortgage rates for you in the future.

The next one after that would be one with rewards points you can build up. I like my GM credit card because when I buy a new car, they give me $2000 off because I used that credit card a lot.

The next one would be a low or zero introductory APR. Remember that if you transfer a balance, you always pay a fee (usually around $50) to make that transaction so even though you pay no interest on purchases, you do on balance transfers. The credit card companies don't tell you that. They want you to beleive you can get 0% intro APR and then when that expires, get a new card for 0% and then just transfer the balance. But it DOES NOT work like that. You always pay a fee to transfer a balance in some way or another. Don't get into that habit or mindset of the revolving credit card. You will only be hurting youself and your credit.

The absolute best advice I can give is to only spend what you can afford to pay off every month.

Do not use your credit card for small, everyday things like gas or coffee. Pay that in cash and save yourself the trouble.

Only use your card when you have to. Don't be afraid to hit the ATM and carry cash. It's awful when I see young people's credit card statement with 100 junk food or gas purchases because they never pay them off and interest kills them.

Prepare a budget and stick to it.

One good hint is this: Write down for one month everything you buy and how much it costs. You will then see what useless things you buy and how to better manage you money.

To better your credit score, never close any accounts. Just pay them off in full every month.

As long as you pay your balance in full every month (and that's the only good way to use a credit card), then the best card is the one that pays you the most rewards.

To see which student credit card will pay you the most for your normal spending profile (on gas, groceries, restaurants, etc.), check out the rewards calculator at:

The calculator for non-college-student cards is at:

How long have you had your 'student' credit card? If you haven't had it long-- and are looking for another 'student' credit card, you can find a complete list here:

http://www.asapcreditcard.com/student-cards.html

But if you're out of school with a good amount of credit history, you should take a STEP-UP to a better offer. Right now, one of the best offers is the Platinum Edition Visa from First National. It has an extremely long 0% intro APR of 15 months on purchases and balance transfers. Plus, it has a competitive ongoing APR of 11.99%.

Of course, Chase Manhattan seems to have the loosest approval guidelines. So if you're worried about being approved, you might try the Chase Platinum Card. It's also a great credit card offer, with a slightly higher ongoing APR. You can find both offers here:

http://www.asapcreditcard.com/0-apr.html

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!

Orchard Bank offers a decent credit card with an interest rate of around 15.50%. This is a good card for those trying to improve their credit scores even if they have had little or no credit and even slow credit. There is an annual fee but it is much less than other credit card companies.

Store cards are similar to credit cards, in that you get a credit limit up to which you can spend on the card. But store cards can be normally used in certain store or group of stores that give you the card. To summarize, you get credit to shop at a certain store or various associated stores by using their special credit card.

What are the advantages?

To attract people to use a card restricted to one store, the retailer will give you a lot of discounts or special offers. They can consist of a free gift, or discounts on purchase prices when you use the card. If you frequently shop at the store, then you can save on the necessary items, when you use one of these cards. Another advantage of store cards is that you can easily get one, even though your credit rating is poor. You can use the store card to your advantage to build your credit history.

So far the only correct answer is Beth's. Stay away from credit cards all together. I assume you're a college student, which means you're way to young to be getting into that kind of debt.

People rationalize credit cards because they allow them to get things that they couldn't otherwise afford. Well, if you can't pay for it with cash, you can't afford it. I had to file for bankruptcy before I figured this lesson out. You don't even need one for "emergencies". That what savings accounts are for. Nor do you need one for rental cars. There's enough competition out there that they will take a debit card if you threaten to take your business next door.

Credit cards are bad, bad, bad!
