Debt card a person needs a pin #, but, it also can be used as a credit card.Hopefully the store the person use the credit/debit card will ask for ID if use as credit . I never sign my cards then the store should ask for ID ( if they don't ask for ID I say to them how do you know if this is not my card) then they will ask for my drivers License,no licenses not purchase.

A credit card, most car rental agencies will not take debit cards. You get better protection from unauthorized charges with a credit card.

charlatan
credit card has preset limit.
debit card up to the limit of balance in your acct.
credit card accepted more, than debit card.

The credit card. When you use a debit or credit card at places like hotels, restaurants, and car rental agencies they typically get an authorization of 25 to 35% above the expect charge. This is to cover any extra charges you may incur before you finalize the bill.

For example you check into a hotel for 4 nights @ $75 per night, with tax it would run about $350 for the entire stay. Because they charge for phone calls and in room movies they would get an authorization for about $450 when you check in. Say the same for a car rental. Now you have $900 tied up for charges of only $700. So if you put $1,000 into the account to cover you expense you will only have $100 to eat with instead of $300 that you might expect.

The would release any excess authorizations once the actual charge has been submitted by the merchant, which wouldn't be until you got back home from your trip.

It depends a lot on which countries you are visiting. In general, I take both a credit and a debit card. Credit cards are generally more accepted for purchases (especially in the US), which debit cards are useful to get local currency from an ATM.

I think better option for you is obviously a credit card but it is widely accepted all over the world
