Sorry bruh, but from one brotha to another, 524 ain't happening, homie. I'm going to keep it real with you. It wasn't because of your color, it was because of your score. They don't even see your face, It's a numbers game, when they pull your credit by your social, and when your score is given. The magic number is 620. I'll give you an example. I have a caucasian friend that's actually named Tyrone. Tyrone Johnson to be exact. Tyrone and you have a similar situation, you both need a loan, but the score just isn't there. He had brought me along for moral support because he already knew that his credit wasn't up to par. When we went in for the loan, ironically they thought that I was Tyrone, which I thought was funny because of stereotypes these days. Well come to find out, Tyrone was denied credit not because his name is stereotyped as a black person, but he had a credit score of 506, which is even lower than yours. Since I had good credit from learning from other peoples mistakes being a credit analyst, I not only helped Tyrone get the loan by cosigning for him, but after about 2 years I helped him get his score back to a respectable 681. So, that just lets you know that it's about the number. It doesn't matter whether you're black, white, brown, yellow, red, striped, polka-dotted, or plaid, the only thing that matters is the number. |

I work at a bank and first of all it's against the law to refuse someone a loan because of race. Second of all, 524 is not a great credit score.
My advice is to work on getting your credit score better and wait on the loan. $20,000 loan when you only make $3,000 more than that in a year would make your credit score worse because the payments would be too much to handle. |

What type of loan are you looking for. 524 is not a good score. If it drops below 500 theres nothing I would be able to do for you. And if you make 23,000 a year. Your bills need to be less then 1,000 a month. They maybe did'nt tell you because your black......but your credit needs some work. |

I am a business to business credit manager. Let me put my own two cents in here.
First, it depends on what you need the loan for. If you are going to buy a house or even raw land with the $20K, most lenders would do it, since they will have collateral (the property) to resell in the event that you don't pay back the loan.
Second, a credit score of 524 is not that good. Mine is 759 and frankly, I think it SHOULD be at least 800. (The highest score possible is 850.)
Third, it's pretty hard to get a loan for $20K if your total earned income is $23K. Heck, the federal, state and local taxes are probably going to take at least 20% of what you earn, so that means over $4K is going to taxes. The remainder you have to live on. How are you going to repay a loan (with interest) over any period of time if the loan is almost equal to your annual earned income?
Lastly, don't feel bad. I know that I am a good credit risk and my payment habits in paying back loans and credit cards is great. Never-the-less, in the past year, I have been turned-down for credit cards, had one credit card closed by the issuer and two other credit cards that drastically reduced my credit limits. So, just because I have an oustanding credit history and score, does not guarantee me that credit issuers will loan me money. |

It could've been a racsist thing depending on where u went BUT 524 isn't that good of a credit score if ur trying to borrow 20k. In order to get that much u'd have to have a credit score of 700 or higher. 524 is actually considered pretty bad within banks. |
