What would happen if the USA banned all interest loans including auto loans, mortgages, and credit cards?
What would happen if you could only buy things that you could actually afford?...

Why can't Americans pay their bills on time?
The current credit crunch crisis stems from the fact from the American people's inability to pay their mortages on time. Why is this the case?

LeeAnn S
Because stupid people got houses that were too big and got interest only loans and then when the interest only period was up, they had to pay the REAL mortgage with was probably over a thousand dollars and they couldn't really afford that because they thought they'd be cool middle class white trash and buy hummers.

Smoochy Poochy
o dear, you are in trouble now...

paintedhorse30
Well actually that is not the reason for the current credit crisis, so that makes your question moot.

Maybe this is true but where is the evidence to support your statement ie. a link?

We are accustomed to living way beyond our means. We also feel a need to "keep up with the joneses". And the media does not help, we see that brand new escalade and we HAVE to have it, never mind we really CAN't afford it. SO we can't pay all our bills because we simply do not have the money...But we have the biggest house on the block...yeah how do you like me now!

Quite simple. People either bought too much house or obtained an adjustable-rate mortgage that was due to reset to an interest rate that most Americans couldn't afford.

Don't lets run away with the idea that Britain doesn't have the same problem. Both in the States and Britain, Greenspan and Brown followed a low interest rate policy, which encouraged high levels of borrowing, which in turn drove up house prices and credit card debt both sides of the Atlantic.

Both Governments basked in the sunshine of apparently strong economies and growth, conveniently ignoring the fact that it was all on borrowed money, a strategy that eventually had to hit the buffers. Now it has.

For the banks, having ditched prudency long ago in favour of sales targets and profits, it provided a profits bonanza, apparently predicated against sound mortgage collateral. Really! They produced ever more exotic lending products to suck in ever more dodgy borrowers against increasingly dodgy house price valuations.

When interest rates rose, surprise surprise, the borrowers started to default, starting with the sub-prime, the very worst examples of bad lending/borrowing. House prices started to fall, confidence goes, banks refuse to lend to each other, people stop spending you get runs on the Bank, and as house prices continue to fall confidence erodes further and the country goes into recession.

Its not Americans its just people that want to spend what they don't have...

It is true that foreclosures are on the rise. I think a big part of the credit crisis right now is debt. Americans are building their debt to outrageous numbers and unable to pay the montly payments. As for the stimulus package, it won't help. Americans will more than likely put the money back into large coperate companies that only helps the rich, not the mom and pop stores that are struggling. We will shall see how it plays out. This is just what I think so please respect that. It is on the msn news that we are in a recession that could possibly turn to depression with the amount of debt Americans carry on their shoulders.

I know couple of people that cant seem to pay the bills on time monthly the funny thing is that they have plenty of money to pay the bills on time but would rather go out to eat and buy a lot of stuff they don't need, it makes me sick.
it different if they just don't have the money due to hard times.

tidworthsucks
