Ms. Denton Lone Star â„¢ | Why can't debt collectors get a LIFE? |
Damn! These people don't care if you're on your death bed or not. Debt collectors from a CELL phone company sittin' there callin' me @ some 7 on the DOT this morning-DEMANDING money from me & making threats to garnish my SSI & Social Security checks, which they CAN'T do. I mean, why if they're not PERSONALLY making any profit off of you, do they put their emotions of anger into threatening you? Please don't say "It's their job." There must be some other reason. I was homeless on the streets, & they STILL don't care-they want MY money. They don't care if you're in the hospital-like I was. They don't care if you're dirt poor & starving. In which I am. SSI & Social Security-that's all my bill money right there. They don't care if you're on your last breath of life. |

Write a letter to the company and tell them they can no longer contact you by phone regarding this debt. Tell them that the only communication you will accept is by letter only. If they continue to harrass you and threaten you, go the the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website and file a complaint. Here is the link:
https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01
In the future, if you want to get a cell phone, get a pre-paid phone and that way you will only use what you have already paid for. Being on SSI/Social Security income (which is probably barely enough to live on), you should gear that income for what is absolutely necessary. Just because you are disabled in some form, there are opportunities out there for you. Start looking at going to school for computer programming (you already have a computer and are able to use it, obviously) or anything else that may spark your interest. Only you can control your destiny. |

They DO have a life. They're working in that awful job to support their life. They don't personally care if you pay or not. It's their job to call you and try to get you to pay if you can.
When I had debt collectors calling me, I let them get all riled up, while I remained calm, and I smiled as I explained to them very kindly that I didn't have any money to send them.
Then they got upset and told me I should borrow from someone to pay the debt. I smiled again, and said, "Now why would I want to pay off a debt by going into debt again."
I then wished them a very pleasant day and hung up.
When they realize that you're not ABLE to pay, they'll stop calling. Their primary goal is to coerce people who are ABLE to pay but just not WILLING to pay, into paying. |

You are right they can't garnish your benefits that is why they are threatening you. They get a percentage if they make you cave. You can stop them though. Tell them go ahead and sue, you can file a vacancy of judgement against them once they have. I know how you feel they are hounding me too. Like there is anything left at the end of the day. lol. Hope this helps in some way |

Actually, I think they want THEIR money -- you know, the money you owe them for signing up for and using their service. A cell phone is a luxury that you obviously couldn't afford.
I am sorry for your troubles and hope things get better for you. |

Quoting you . . .
"I mean, why if they're not PERSONALLY making any profit off of you, do they put their emotions of anger into threatening you?"... Please don't say "It's their job."
Uhhhh . . . but it IS their job - and they ARE personally making a profit off of you - - - sorry, but that's the reality of this monetary world . . . collecting on delinquent accounts is their LIFE, their grocery money, their 'life's blood'. . . |

I cant say that I understand your situation. Nobody knows exactly what you are going through unless they walk in your shoes. Debt collectors have a job to do and that is to try any way they can to get you to pay your debts. Yes they can and often do seem heartless. However, there are laws that they have to follow or you can report them. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) is a federal law that regulates what creditors may and may not do when trying to collect a debt. If they do not follow these laws you can contact the proper authorities (The Federal Trade Commission) or even sue.
You can also write a creditor a "cease and desist" letter. This letter tells the creditor that they are to stop all further communication with you regarding this debt. Once received, the creditor must leave you alone. They still retain the right to sue you, but cannot write or call anymore. |

Sorry to say but its their job. They are trying to make sure their debts are payed. I can't really get mad at people trying to do what they are payed to do. |

Threaten to sue them. They are violating any number of sections of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, then let them talk to a dial tone. Work out a deal to pay the bill. |

Hello,
People here just do have hearts I guess. I looks like to me so far everyone that has posted here has never been late on a bill.
The funny thing is every one knows how debt collectors work but act like they are pros and never had any issues themselves.
Well if you send this letter they have to stop calling you by law.
Make sure you send it RRR (return reciept requested)
Everytime they call after they have received the letter you could possibly sue for $1000.00 per call....
DEMAND TO VALIDATE DEBT
April 17, 2007
Fill in Debt Agency here
To whom it may concern,
I am formally requesting that you validate the debt in which your company claims I owe. I have enclosed all information I have regarding the debt. In addition to your validation of this debt that I do not believe I owe, I request that you please do the following:
1. Explain what this money that you say I owe is for.
2. Demonstrate how you calculated what you say I owe.
3. Provide me copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe.
4. Produce Proof you are licensed in my state, and provide me your license number.
Due to possible inaccuracies, your lack of investigation before attempting to collect this debt, and that you have unlawfully reported this debt to the credit reporting agencies, I must demand that the validation I hereby lawfully request be in the form of a notarized statement by a person with original knowledge of the debt as it was constituted and who can testify that the debt was incurred legally, was not subsequently disputed as a result of returned, faulty, or recalled consumer products, was not utilized as a profit-loss tax deduction during the period it may have been payable, and was not claimed as a loss with any insuring entity during the period it may have been payable.
Please be advised that I am not requesting a verification that you have my mailing address; rather, I am requesting validation, i.e., competent evidence that I had some contractual obligation sans consumer protection encumbrance which incurred the original claims associated with this trade line.
Please know that you have 20 days from the tracked and confirmed delivery of this lawful notice to answer these demands and to remove the associated negative trade line notations from the CRA reports. Any other action may constitute evidence of your intent to abridge one or more civil or other constitutional rights. Please be further advised that continued unsubstantiated reporting of possible inaccuracies to third parties may provide a basis for criminal complaints being filed in accordance with FDCPA, FCRA, and other federal statutes.
You have reported this debt to a credit reporting agency, Your company is obligated by law to tell that agency I do not agree with this debt.
I further demand that your company send results of your investigation and all correspondence to the below address and I look forward to a timely resolution to this matter.
NOTICE TO CEASE AND DESIST COMMUNICATION
Please limit your communication with me in writing only. If I receive any live telephone calls, or repeated dialing and hang-ups from your company, I will consider them to constitute harassment. Please be advised that unwanted telephone calls are a class 1 misdemeanor in this state and I will file a complaint against the caller (individually) and your company with your state’s Attorney General. I am maintaining a telephone log of each call and calls attempted. Notice: This letter serves as written notice that I will make an audio recording of your call.

I am so sorry about the trouble you have had. I know debt collectors are not very nice. I have had problems with them before. There are laws that protect debtors. Check out
http://www.daveramsey.com Dave ramsey's book is also very good. The name escapes me, but it has an entire chapter on how to handle creditors and the laws they must follow. For all thepeople that are hating on you for being broke maybe they will learn to be more compassionate. They could be in worse shape if they were in your shoes. |

Debt collectors have lives. A lot of them actually get commission on what they collect, so they are going to be mean and nasty. Its thier livelihood. They are out there making money so that they can pay their bills and not get bugged by debt collectors. I hate getting a call from them too, but I can't blame them, they ARE only doing their job..
I'm sorry you've had such a tough life, why don't you get a job being a debt collector? then you can pay off your debts! |

It time to make debt collecting illegal - it is ridiculous in the 21st century - they take away your TV and computer - sell them at auction for peanuts to pay the moron who they sent around as a bailiff! The Social security is now the Department of Works and pensions run by a well known fascist Herr Hutton - with his welfare reform bill. Make him a life peer and sit the bugger next to thatcher - they have a lot in common - this is all stupid ideas coming from across the Atlantic - tey have nutty ideas about Welfare reform too - some idiot named George Bush published some garbage. |

they have one. I understand your anger, but some of them are in debt themselves, and they are just doing their job, so that they can feed their families and pay their own bills. they are expected to make a certain amount of calls, and they would get a plus if they can get people to make the payments. put yourself in their shoes. |

YOU decided to enter into the contract, and put yourself in the position to have to pay them. Is it supposed to be their fault?
They gave you the phone, because you promised to pay for it. You did use the phone, didn't you? Take some personal responsibility for your own life, and the circumstances YOU put yourself in. Quit crying, get up and do something about your situation. Sorry, no sympathy here. |
|

?

They are obligated by an unwritten contract to make sure you fulfill your contractual agreement you signed to keep your credit rating good. Of course, if you don't care.... |

Boo friggidy hoo. Pay your bills. If you don't, this happens.
Why can't you get a CLUE? |

John Q Harris

It is VERY easy to get them to stop calling. Pay the bill. |
|

Tom S

So, they should just say, "Oh sorry. Never mind. We'll get someone else to pay your bill."
They're trying to hold you accountable for your debt. Which, for some unknown reason, you don't seem to want to accept.
If you owe the money, pay it, ya deadbeat.
Let's see, if you accept a good or service and then don't pay for it, isn't that stealing?
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and make something of your life. Quit whining and just do it. Everyone goes through bad spots in life.
The Constitution provides for the "pursuit of happiness". No guarantees there. You've got "life" and "liberty" to make it happen for yourself.
And, get the collectors off of your back by agreeing to a payment plan. Even if it's only a few bucks a month. |
