No you do not get charged a fee for using it as a debit or I never have in over 40 yrs but you will not be required to sign for you purchase or provide and ID. I always use mine as a credit so they are forced to make sure I am who I say I am...lol |

Most likely it was done as credit. Debit cards can be processed as credit or debit. But there are 2 ways to process each. To do debit, you must put in a pin number, thus the company must have a machine that you can do this with. If they don't then they just process everything as credit. But they end up paying higher transaction fees. For a large chain like subway though, they may have a strong agreement to keep these fees low franchise wide. |

some machines do not take debit as on option. |

It will come out of your account regardless. It doesn't really matter how they run it. I like using debit just because I can enter my pin number instead of having to sign. Not all places have a key pad where debit can be used. This was probably the case at subway. |

They only ask credit or debit when they have the facilities for you to enter your PIN number. There are a lot of places that take your debit card and only accept tham as a credit. Basically, if you see the little card swiper machine sitting out where you can use it, then they'll ask. Otherwise, it's going down as credit :) |

It doesn't matter if they ran it as debit or credit. It still comes directly out of your bank account. You won't get a bill like you do for a credit card.
Actually, using your debit card as a credit card is a bit safer. It also has the perk of earning Visa Reward points for using it as credit if you sign up for that feature on your debit card. Ask your bank if it's available. |

Most companies use Debit cards as they are a credit card so they don't ask. They just automatically run it as credit. |

if its just a credit card you cant use it as a debit...
a debit card is a card using money from your account (and can be used as credit which takes it out of your account reguardless)
A credit card is you can spend (most companies you spend 10,000 dollars) and you get a bill with the charges... |

it all depends on the place you are using the card at. Most places only ask the credit/debit question when they get the prompt from the system. A normal credit card should not give the cashier a prompt for credit/debit. The place that asked you credit/debit probably did it out of habit. |

well where i work at we have a credit card machine that it doesn't matter which one u do. Usually the customer tells me to run it as a credit or a debit. I think it's a personal preference type of thing. |

Most of the time, for a credit card, you have to sign the receipt.
But not for a debit. |

it's actually best to just use it as a credit card. If you ise it as a debit you'll get charged a fee. |
