Why do I not have credit?
I currently have an apartment in my name, (which is also in my boyfriend's name), and two utility bills. All always paid on time. Everytime the apartment office sends us things in the mail, it says my name and mine only. But yet, I check my credit score online and there is no recognition really of anything. What is that?
Additional Details
I have had all of these accounts open for over 8 months...

You need items that are reported to the credit bureaus, like credit cards, auto loans. Go to your bank that you finance with and tell them you want a secured credit card and build your credit that way.

Utility bills are not a line of credit. Most credit reporting companies look for revolving credit. Credit cards, department store cards, gas cards. They also look for lines of credit - loans, equity, etc.

If you want to build up your credit, start by getting a credit card from your bank, as they will be more willing to extend credit to you. Make small purchases and pay them off each month. You will then create a positive credit history.

Best of luck.

Rent & utility bills do not register on credit bureaus who manifest "credit scores." If you do not have credit cards, store credit cards, a mortgage, or an auto loan, you will most likely have a 0 fico score and be classified as having NO CREDIT.

Try applying at your local retail stores like TARGET, Sears, Wickes Furniture, etc. As soon as you show that you are using those lines and demonstrating a payment history, your score will develop.

That's a common problem with first time homebuyers or owners who want to refi and put their adult child's name on the loan who have yet to establish their credit. But it's easy to fix. For homebuyers wanting to establish their credit, a good start is maintaining/opening 3 credit cards for a minimum of 2 years before applying for a purchase loan.

However, paying your rent on time is also to your benefit. Some lenders may ask you for a year's worth of cancelled checks to verify your payment history on your apartment. So, keep it up!

Best of luck in your new place!

Normaly Apartments, Cell phones, Utility bills don't report to the credit bueros unless you actually don't pay them . Messed up right but that is the way it seems to be. Apply for a credit card at a local store and you may get it and then pay your bill on time. Auto Loans, Credit cards, Morgages, these are things that will help you establish credit

You need to establish credit. Utility bills really dont show up on your credit report. Put a cell phone bill under your name, a student/car/house loan, get a credit card...a department credit card, reg. mastercard/visa/discover, and make sure it is all in your name. Use it every so often, dont go too crazy, pay on time, and dont go over the limit. You should be good then. Start small. Good luck!

None of the agencies that you are paying are reporting to anyhe credit agencies. No more no less than that. It is not surprising that you have no credit. Tha is not entiriely a bad thing. Be very careful

stolen car
Utilities dont show you until you dont pay them
Usually the only thing that shows up is loans...car..house...things like that and credit cards.
Unless its an unpaid bill and they're going after you it wont show up

JB
Good. Keep it that way. A credit score simply means you have debt. Don't change a thing.

To establish credit you need to obtain a credit card. Start out with a gas card; they are the easiest to get. Make small monthly payments (maybe 3-4 dollars over what they require) because this is what the credit bureaus look at. They want to know that you are 'credit worthy'. By showing that you pay your bill on time, every month, you will establish credit. Regarding rent, they don't report to credit agencies. I guess they figure we all have to pay to live somewhere. LOL Start with the gas card, then apply for a credit card, then you will be able to use this credit to obtain a mortgage - later.

those people dont report to the credit bureau. get a credit card (you dont have to use it) and you can start having a score. or just dont pay your bills, let them send you r accout to a collection agency, and then you'll have credit, it'll be bad though.
