I've wondered the same thing. I can see asking questions asking about personal opinion, but when it comes to asking easy-to-find facts it sure seems like it'd be easier to google than to keep looking back at your question for an answeer. Maybe some people aren't very good with coming up with search terms?
I have another question...
How mad do you think Yahoo (a search engine) gets when so many of us here refer to search engine searches as "googling" - hahahaha! |

Just lazy? Or don't know how to search? Or just want to participate on this board? |

Because it is a more interesting, interactive way of finding out about stuff. I am a newcomer to Yahoo Q and A but I do love it. |

My guess is that they want other people's opinions about it. Of course, you can find opinions on the web. Sometimes, a persons direct experience of something is more enlightening than a bunch of plain facts. |

Sometimes having someone's actual experience with that particular question can save yourself from having to sort through all the extra info that google brings up. |

im lost come and find me

if you google something it only pops up the searches but if you ask somebody could explain it to them so they could understand it better |

Some people like listening or reading others comments. Some people feel they will get better answers from a body of people who seems closer, or that they have something in common with. |

Maybe they just want to hear somebody elses opinion. |

Sometimes searching isn't just simple enough. You have to search and search and search to get the answer you want. I personally prefer this to searching as I get answers from a variety of sources. I value peoples opinions. I like to hear the different ways questions can be answered. Sometimes people point out a website reference to me. Saving me the time searching and getting me straight to what I want to know. I really enjoy the Q and A on yahoo. |

For the same reason that you didn't ask this question on google! Google is just a machine, but yahoo lets you actually talk to people and get oppinions from real people instead of from a program. this way it is more personal too. i prefer yahoo's real people to google any day! Besides, what kind of an answer do you think that you would get if you googled this question; probably not what you were looking for. Yahoo is almost a chat room in the way that you can see how other people feel. Yahoo is totally better! |

The same reason people come to a sight where you ask and answer questions, and ask stupid questions...like...Why do people ask questions they can easily google??? Duh! Sometimes human experience gives you much more qualified answers than a search engine. Some people just happen to like human input. I would say if you don't like reading the questions, stay away from the sight . Nuff said. |

googling sometimes do not give the whole picture and sometimes they want to see if what they are thinking is okay or maybe google is foreign to them. Somepoeple do not know how to search or use a search engine like ggogle-momma,dogpile, yahoo, msnsearch, back of the web search engines, lucos, and others. But sometimes people want to reach out tand touch others. |

I can't speak for others, but I know when I'm asking questions I'm looking for intelligent answers that have experience behind it..... For example: if I'm asking what the best free spyware program is out there, obviously people are going to give me their own choice, however, if they give me a variety of programs that they've tried and tell me what they think of them, then I would be more inclined to go with what they said rather than just picking one at random from a search engine result.
I look for opinions from people and experience, and if somebody makes me laugh at the same time, hey, all the better!
I think that's what a lot of people want, opinions from people. It's just not enough at times to put your question into a search engine.... you can come up with a million answers, but if you don't ask, you may find a program/answer to your question that does more harm than good to you.
That's just my thoughts, but then again, I answer questions for the same reason I ask them... to voice an opinion. :)
Have a great day! |
