Why do people charge up more credit card debit than they can pay?
Not people who get in a bind and have to use credit to survive for a while, but people who just buy material stuff that they really don't need.

I don't do this.

Because no one ever taught them how to handle money.

The banks do an excellent job of convincing people that they can live the life on $15/month.

I've seen it time and again. People will even pay off the debt and turn right around and do it again.

Because sometimes it makes sense. If you can get a credit card for 2% or even 0% to buy something that is going up in price and you know you will buy it later, you get it on credit and pay it off when you can afford it.

Also, it helps build credit so when you want to buy a house or a car, you have a good credit rating.

Material stuff isn't bad. Striving for more and better stuff helps the economy and ulimatley had led to much better living conditions for the world at large.

Now why do people do it? Because they are weak and irresponsible. Should they, how much, and when should they is a different story.

Cause it is easy and they think it is free money

They're irresponsible and probably feel the need to keep up with the Jonses. Some people just can't stop buying material objects. They see it and they gotta have it and all they have to do is pull out a card and it's theirs.
