I got mine so i could get good credit so i could get a loan and good car insurence. In wisconsin...I use 20 dollars a month and pay it off right away - I use cash otherwise. |

I use mine to pay all the bills, for emergencies, and just in case I am short of cash. Further, I have 55 days interest free period, and in those 55 days I pay back everything I own to the Credit Card company. I don't like carrying too much cash with me. |

mostly to establish good credit, If you haven't noticed in order to buy a car or a house or even if you want to rent a car or house you need 'good credit' even job applications ask about your credit rating. If it is high you can get what ever your wanting, hands down. Otherwise you need cash. and if you are using cash you must have the full amount. and not many people have the full amount/ you need deposits if you don't have credit. deposits of cash/ is that a good reason?
by the way I hate credit cards and they are terrible for the economy and bad for the poor people and by poor I mean middle class, you need to be filthy rich to benefit from credit cards and that's what most people don't understand
Oh also you pay sometimes twice as much as you would with cash when you use credit sometimes even more. If your smart you only get one good credit card and a gas card to build your credit. and you pay it off as soon as you can. always pay more than the minimum/ |

A couple of answers here.
In order to get a home loan, lenders need to assess your risk and one way of doing that is to assess your track record with credit cards. It's not the only factor they look at, but without this record, it's a harder, more risky task, to assess your likelihood of default.
But credit cards can be, and i could argue, should be a boon for consumers. They are a free 30 day loan for money and this should be better for the borrower, in fact, when credit cards first came about, the business model was annual fees, not interest fees. Borrowers, when offered a chance to pay later, simply take that option all too often.
I hardly use cash for any transactions. I use credit whenever i can, but i pay my balance each month - actually more like 2x or 3x each month - so the only fees i pay are annual fees. Frequent flyer miles are just a small bonus. |

It helps to build credit for the important large purchases.
It is convenient... plug it into the gas pump and pay for gas... even after hours at some stations.
Some, with benefits, will extend warranties, provide insurance for lost items purchased with the card, provide reward points to be used for merchandise or groceries, travel and cancellation insurance, etc.
It provides a buffer for purchases that can be disputed should workmanship prove shoddy etc.
Allows for more security than using cash.
Used correctly they are a wonderful financial planning and management tool. Abused, they can ruin you for years to come. |

Credit cards seem to be quicker than cash. they are easier to carry too. some places only take credit cards and money orders. (mney orders seem to be a pain in the butt)
but you can roll in cash (buy like $200 in 1's) more places carry cash, and you have it right in frount of you so you know what you have.
I would use both. But i would only use credit cards for when I realy need to use it. |

Absolutely nothing , Cash is so much better than having plastic money.
Its just that Credit cards help establish some credit history and helps you become more credit worthy in getting loans later for those big purchases you may need to establish your independency .
House , cars, schools , whatever you may need to help you later on.
Use credit wisely , it will very much help you later in life . |

Credit Cards are typically used for the big shopper. You'd be nuts to carry around $1000 on you when you shop. Credits cards are also easier to manage. If you use debit or checks, you have to keep a close eye on you're balance. withdraw to much, and you get hit HARD with fines. |

I have credit cards because I can show that I am responsible enough to pay my bills and that I am a low risk to lenders if I want a loan. It is also a good way to tell me where I am spending money and how much. If I have walking around money, I have no idea where it went. |

I guess we all get pulled into the credit history scheme when we need a car or rent or mortgage.... We used to be in a world where "I think, therefore I am" now we are in a situation where "I consume, therefore I am". If you have zero purchasing power you are no longer a citizen or a human being. very very sad :-( |

Hi,
I got into credit cards when I was 18 years old. I just got a new girlfriend and wanted to take her out and buy her things. My job didn't pay that great, so I didn't have much cash. Jump to six years later, Same girlfriend, I charges a diamond ring, and a wedding all on credit. It feels like free money when you don't have any. I never worry about the bills. I keep charging and having fun. (OPM-other peoples money!) I don't need to credit cards anymore . Finally I am debt free thanks to the internet.

Mine is simply a convenience. I stay away from credit card debt and interest charges by paying the balance in full every billing cycle. Cash is OK too, but I find that I track my spending much better with a debit or credit card. With cash, I spend it and have no running record of how or where it was spent. |

Too many people are hard up for instant money and could care less about the payback, interest, etc. As a matter of fact, some do not ever repay their debt. People assume that credit cards are like free cash...they just keep spending as if they will never have to pay it back. Now on the other hand, credit cards can be a good thing if used wisely. Some even use them to rebuild credit. It all depends on whose hands a credit card falls into. |

I like the convenience. Sometimes i just need things before the cash rolls around. It is also good for emergencies. However, there is a lot of abuse. Need to be careful and it will serve as a fine and free finance management tool. |
