Because they are lazy and just love "living on the grid" for the benefit of "the man". |

I KNOW its stupid because merchants have to charge you and they charge your accounts! sometimes a $2.00 item might cost you $6.00 at the end of the year BUT between you and me let those stupid people do that to themselves!
Next time your in line just LAUGH to yourself |

I use my credit cards like cash and funnel as much spending as I can through them (and pay off the balance every month) to maximize my cash back rewards (often more than $1000 per year).
I used this calculator tool at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ to calculate the cards that would pay me those most cash back for my spending (because different cards pay different cash back percentages in different categories like gas stations, restaurants, groceries, book stores, etc.). |

I use other means because I don't carry cash. I find that most people I know that carry cash end up using all of it, then not even knowing where most of it went. If you have it, you're going to spend it- so I just don't have it.
However, I use checks (don't cost me anything) and my credit card which I pay off in full every month so there's no down side and it allows me to keep trach of all my spending and continue to build a good credit history. |

Their check is direct deposited and they don't have any cash on them. |

Probably because we never carry cash anymore. Who has time to get to the bank? Besides, by using plastic, it makes it easier for the government to track you and your consumption patterns. |

Could provide a more efficient way of tracking spending utilizing the receipts over cash mishaps...(ie Casual pkt spending)...{:-{}. |

I use a debit card because it's faster then writing checks. I keep enough cash on me for small purchases under $20 but sometimes I just use my debit card anyway, no change to worry about so I get out faster.

I imagine there are many reasons.
Once I had to write a check for $11.00 because I left my cash on the table at home. There were two guys behind me making rude comments. I told them they could go ahead of me in the check out line.
I have friends who use credit cards for every purchase, no matter how small because the credit card has a rewards program or cash back promotions. (for every dollar spent they get a certain % back or they get points that can be redeemed to buy more stuff).
I also know people who travel and put every business related expense on their corporate credit card. Their employer pays the credit card company directly, so they don't have to submit a reimbursement request if they charge the $5.00 lunch to the company credit card. |

I use my debit card for pretty much everything, because I usually don't carry any cash with me. |

Not sure about people using checks but I use my debit card for everything. The reason I use it so much is my bank account is only free if I use my debit card 10 times a month, otherwise its a $5 fee. Its alot safer than having money on you all the time. |

If I keep cash on me I'll be tempted to spend it; therefore, I use a debit card. |
