Will I build credit if I'm on a friends credit card account?
I have no credit. My frined offered me to join his credit card account, we will have the same cards basicly, I'll just be able to use his card, I will have a card in my own name, but on his account. Will this help me build credit? I find it funny how I work full time and can't get a credit card but someone who doesn't even have a job can get a credit card if they're in school. That makes no sence lol. But if I can't build credit, I will be able to in January when I go to school. Thanks to anyone who answers! :)

Just make sure that particular account goes well and is paid on time because if she/ he is late with the payment you lose in the credit score department.

I'm advising my sons not to take credit card offers at all. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

This won't help you very much. It's not your credit, it's his. He's the responsible person for paying, not you.

The system may be messed up, but if you want to build credit, you're going to have to do it with your own credit card. Start small.

Up until about a year ago this would help you as long as the friend paid thier bill ontime it would help your credit score by just being on the account. However FICO changed this rule and it no longer will help your credit it can only hurt it if the bill is not paid.

The best way to build your credit is to establish Primary accounts (Accounts only in your name and not to piggyback off of other peoples credit.) Although authorized user accounts still work for the credit score (FICO 08 was stopped) a lender will still look at your credit depth and most are ignoring authorized user accounts. There is a BIG problem today with people wanting to establish credit and that problem is going into debt just to build credit. Not a good thing with today's economy. There is way that I have found to build credit without going into debt. Look at www.creditloader.com. I have used this and I have told a lot of people about it. It builds large credit fast, shows the bankers that you have money in a savings type account and you are the primary on the credit report all without going into any debt. You than can look at credit cards to build even more credit and you will probably have a much lower interest rate.

Being an authorized user (AU) on someone else's account will help your credit standing (assuming, of course, that the account is in good standing and all payments have been timely).

There were changes to the FICO scoring models discussed wherein AU accounts would be disregarded in credit scoring. However, that change has been deferred and it's uncertain when and in what manner that change might eventually be implemented. (Talk is now that not all AU accounts will be ignored.)

At the present time, this can still be a good strategy through which to establish credit. However, you need to ensure that the card has a clean history. If you have any doubts about that, I'd recommend against it. (A good precaution would be to ask to see a copy of his credit report ... but that smacks of "looking a gift horse in the mouth").

No, it will not help your credit as the account, and responsibility to pay it, is your friend's.

no it needs to be under your name, but you can start with at least a card with a low limit like 300, www.creditcards.com they have different choices

Don't do it.

No friend is that trustworthy. If he gets into difficulty, you will never get credit on your own.

Try getting a credit card from a department store. After a year that indicates good intent and helps to get a MC, Visa, etc.
