Will I still have a bad credit? 10 points for honest answer. Thank you?
Over 2 years ago I had a minor accident. I went to the hospital for couple times. The bills were about $990. I had a health insurance, but the health insurance have never paid for it. Finally, last year the hospital reported the dept to the correction agency.

I am thinking of paying the $990 to the Hospital in Jan. (Even though it should be paid by my former health insurance agency)

Will I still have a bad credit after I pay of all my debt. (The $990--it is only debt I have)

I am 22 years old. I have no credit cards or student loans. After I paid off my hospital bill. Should I have one to build my credit score?

Thank you so much.
Additional Details
How can I contact the collection agency?

Sorry to say the answer is yes.

You will have to deal with the collection company since the account has been sold by the hospital.

When people pay old debts the accounts revert to current rather then old and actually lower your score.

The only thing that will change is the account will show as paid with a $0 balance which will help in the long run as far as when you apply for credit in the future, but it will not help your credit score.

The account will show for 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days unless you get the collection company to agree to a pay for delete agreement, this simply states that in return for you paying the debt they agree to remove tha account from your credit report.

If they agree to this, be sure and get it in writing before you pay them a dime.

As far as a credit card goes, they are a great way of building credit, simply use it for every day things, never exceed 30% of your credit limit in any given month and pay in full before the due date and you will be fine.

Good luck.

My wife does hospital collections, and if you offer to pay cash on the account you will most likely get a discount. Where she works they give a 40% cash discount. The best time to have gotten your insurance co. to pay is when you had the service performed. Im sure the sent you an E.O.B. to let you know what they were going to pay on this bill. After a year they are no longer obligated to pay that bill.

It will show up on your credit report but creditors, credit cards, car loans banks they dont care about medical bills there more concern on debts that are like credit cards and bank loans, this bill will show on your credit, but get credit cards to start building up your credit.

If your insurance made a mistake, as you seem to imply, what are you doing to get that mistake corrected? Or is it the case that the services were in fact not covered by insurance and you just thought they were?

Regarding the debt, if the hospital has sold off the debt to a collection agency, the hospital no longer owns it. The collection agency does. So you will have to bargain with them.

When you pay the account off the status will change from a "collection" to a "paid collection". Neither are considered positive accounts but the "collection" will hurt your score more than an "paid collection" will. Medical bills aren't something that most lenders weigh too heavily on since scenarios like yours happen regularly- insurance not covering people's medical bills. If I were you, I would forget about spending the $990 on paying it off. I would try to get a credit card (either a pre-pay credit card or a regular credit card with a co-signer). Activate the card but don't use it. This is the quickest and easiest way to build your credit. The medical bill will fall off 7 years from the date it was opened. if you pay it off now, the clock will re-start as a paid collection and stay on for 7 more years.

You won't have "bad" credit, but you will have a ding on your credit record.

Any time that a collection agency gets involved you loose.

I would seriously suggest that you pursue having you old health coverage company paying the bill. They owe it, not you. Get an attorney that specializes in that kind of thing and add their bill to your claim. Once that settles out and they pay it, then that also goes into your record that you paid the hospital to close the bill out, but because you were right you then went after the insurance company and got funded by them.

good luck

go to the hospital business office go over the insurance again the car insurance should have covered it if not your health insurance. once it's clear up write them a letter to clear your credit.
also contact your car insurance tell them about it.
health insurance do the same.

Your health insurance may not have paid if you had not met your deductible for the year. If I were you, I would pay the $990 and move on.

Now, on to credit. There may be a ding on your credit because of late payment, but it should show resolved in full after payment. You will have to check on this. You can get your credit report at annualcreditreport.com I believe.

As far as getting a credit card, I wouldn't get one just to build up my credit score. If you want to, I don't think it is bad, but it's not necessary. When you want to buy a home, or a car, or whatever you may want a loan for in the future, you can find a lender who will actually look at your situation as a basis of qualification, rather than just your credit score.

Congratulations on being 22 and basically debt free. Keep putting money in savings and you will be rich beyond your dreams.

To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your score<!--you'll get your credit report, an indication of how your score ranks nationally and an explanation of how you can boost your standing.

http://best-loans.awardspace.com/creditscore.htm

In order to improve your credit score, it's important to know where you stand currently. Despite all the media attention given to free credit reports-->you still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs.

get a copy of your credit report... that should have the collection agency's information on it... if there's no phone number, just google their address to get it... you might also want to send them a certified letter explaining what you want to get out of them... my advice would be to pay them, but request (and get this in writing from them first) that they pay and delete your account... which means when you pay it, they delete it off of your credit... it will then be like it was just never there in the first place and your credit should be fine after that... i'd suggest getting a small credit card after that also so you can build up your credit even more...

Contact your HMO. Get the process started with them. Then contact the collection agency. If it has gone to collections then chances are they have issued a bad credit score against you. Check your credit rating and see if they can reverse it. Your credit is very important. All your records will follow you all your life. Check these areas and let us know what happens.

You owe the money to the hospital. You need to pay it. Your fight is with the insurance co.

Anytime you go to the hospital you sign a paper that say's you are responsible for the bill if the insurance company doesn't pay period.

As far as credit cards go (and obsessing with the I LOVE DEBT score). They are a great way of getting you into debt.
