If you where threaten with this action you must stop dealing with this collector immediately. there is a law protecting you, with being threaten by jail time for not paying you debts. You are doing the right thing settling your debt however i advise the following steps.
1) get it all in writing so they will not pester you will the remainder of the balance, do this before you send them a dime
2) send them money orders do not use cc # or checks
3) try to use deleting the negative info on your credit report as a negating too.
If you are being threaten with jail time with this matter contact your attorney general, You can sue them with that form of harassment. |

Not very likely. Bear in mind you are at the mercy of the judge.
Now ... if you end up in court and do NOT mind your manners, the judge could put you in jail for contempt of court. The same is possible if you fail to do as the court orders. Failure to appear could result in a bench warrant for your arrest.
Such things are very rare as far as I know as long as you are only involved in a credit collection.
There are other potential problems if you fail to tend to this matter. You will sleep better if you do something about the matter when and if you can.

No, you won`t go to jail. But if you don`t declare bankruptcy, then they can pursue you for the rest of your life for the money you owe and the exhorbitant interest on it too. |

debt is normally a civil matter, not a criminal one. You only go to jail for criminal matters.
They can sue you and possibly get an order to deduct money from your pay , or tax returns , or even sale of property. |

No, you wont go to jail. But you also will not be able to get good loans in the future. This could severely effect your credit score. If you don't want to settle it, let someone else do it for you.
