okay one small medical bill like that should not be having that much affect. your best bet is to call whoever you owe that money and tell them you will pay it off right now but only if they remove the account completely from your report because it is hurting you.
As far as the rest of your credit you need to show good payment history for the last 2 years and a minimum of at least what is call 3 tradelines, for example a loan, auto loan, or credit card to show some history. If all you have is that medical bill on there you only have negative showing.
If both of you are lacking credit it is time to start building it, start with some basic credit cards and pay them on time. Try Orchard Bank and Capital One they are both very lenient on lack of credit. Make sure to keep stable jobs and a good rental history- all these things will help when you want to buy a home or a car. I assume those are the major items you are concerned with. It is easier if both of you have credit than if only one of you does so start working on it. in the mean time pull your report and make sure everything on there is accurate and take care of that medical bill- go to

Your credit is linked to your SSN and that doesn't change.
If it's only $35, why can't you pay it? |

Nope. In fact, when you and you spouse apply for you first joint credit purchase, your bad credit will appear and affect the outcome of the loan process. May be denied, larger down payment may be required, maybe even be required to accept a higher interest rate.
Best (if you can) to apply under the spouse's name, only, until your credit history can be cleared up.
Remember everything is tracked by the Social Security Number.
Good luck! |

Forget-n-forgive forget it!!

Your credit will not improve because you are married. Pay the hospital bill. Your credit score is linked to your social security number, and you will lower your credit score when you apply for loans. You also need to be careful about increasing your debt so quickly after you get married. Take it slow and make sure it is a necessity before you apply for a loan. Too much debt will lead to problems with both your credit and your marriage. |

sorry, your credit follows you married or single for your lifetime. try getting a small credit card and making minimal purchases that you can pay of immediately when you receive the bill to improve your credit. applying jointly on loans may help the overall decission of the lender. you need to work on building his credit record as well. make sure when you're trying to build good credit you know your boundries, don't go overboard and end up upside down. |

One of the fastest ways to get cash with bad credit, and little hassle, would be with a payday loan. Yes they have terrible interest rates but they are taking a risk. This site offers more details about the payday loans as well as various sites offering the loans, many without even a credit check. Do your homework. Best starting point is here:

ummm doesnt work that way, unless the person u are marrying has excellent credit and everything goes in his name with u as a joint signer, so why not pay the hospital bill sinces its only $35 and go from there |

In the state of Texas Mortgage lenders do not count medical collections against you. Although if you want that bad debt to get off your credit, you need to pay it, and it will stay on there for a specified time starting from the exact date of when you finally pay it off. So the sooner the better. Never debt consolidate to fix your credit, use a reputable credit repair company. Consolidation is an admission of guilt and prevents you from ever filing any type of bankrupcy that could ever erase your unsecured debt. Credit repair hammers on the companies who usually keep horrible records on your debt. If they can't produce the original agreements, then they have to erase the debt, also Credit repairers are good negotiators for settling a debt to a quick pay off. |

If the medical bill is in collections & is under 1 year old, pay it off now. That way it will be off of your credit when you go to buy the house. If it is 3 or 4 years old, leave it alone as the negative impact is minor & paying it off will create recent negative entry in your credit profile. Tell you boyfriend to get credit now, lenders normally want to see a 2 year credit history. You can also put money into a savings account, then get a loan from the bank & use the saving account as collateral. That will give you a credit tradeline in your credit profile. Also, lenders will sometimes use alternative credit items, such as cell phone bills, utility bills, auto insurance payments, etc. Anythng that will shows you have be ability to make your payments in a timely fashion. Also, begin setting aside money for a house fund today. Take 10% of everything that you earn & put it into your fund. Also, when you are shopping, negotiate the price with the merchant. Most will do this, you will be surprised. Then put your negotiated savings into your house fund. Good Luck!! |
