Will my credit score be lowered if I check or inquire about it?

It puts a small dint in it. You're allowed to see your credit report free, with no harm to you, once a year, you can go to annualcreditreport.com I think and it gives you the report from three different credit bureaus.

Unfortunately, yes! This is something they don't and won't tell you. Everytime or any time you or some one else checks your credit history it goes against your ability to obtain credt each time this occurs. It is very important to check your credit , but be aware of the regs regarding such. YOU have to investigate. because THEY won't inform you. Good Luck

The Guero!

Yes..and no

Depends where you are getting your report from. If you get it direct from the provider, no.

If you are getting it from a loan giving place of business yes.

When you apply for credit, they pull a "hard" inquiry. The ones that show up. If you get it from the provider it is a "soft" inquiry and doesn't show up.

No unless you authorize someone else such as a creditor etc.

No...that's not a hard pull...that's a soft pull

no you should get a free report too every year. Freecreditreport.com

Molly
No. Just like your credit report itself, you are basically allowed unlimited access to your own report. Those inquiries do now show up or effect your numerical score.

What does is inquiries from other places either when you apply for credit or if current creditors do annual updates.

TXRealtor25
It will lower with 5 or more inquiries within a 90day period.

yes, but only temporarily as all enquiries decrease your score however it will go back to normal the following month unless you do something and a lender then needs to record it against you the next month like a late payment on a credit agreement.

The unequivocal answer is no. You are allowed, by law, to monitor your own credit. Also, by law, you are entitled to free credit reports annually. http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the federally sanctioned web sight. Credit scores are not free but they can be obtained at this sight as well. Additional credit reports can be obtained throughout the year as well without effecting your scores but must be purchased. Or if you are denied credit you can obtain a free report if you respond within thirty days.

freecreditreport.com is designed to lure people to their sight and, obviously, it seems to work. I continue to see incorrect answers referring people to this sight.

If you are thinking of going to http://www.freecreditreport.com I would reconsider. Check this site out: http://www.ripoffreport.com

Checking your own score doesn't hurt you at all. But when somebody else does it (a credit card company you applied to, for example), it might. That will show up on your report. It might not hurt it a lot, but if there enough inquiries, it may be a red flag.
