Possibly. It depends on a lot of factors. Pay down your debt but don't cancel your credit cards. Stop using them. Get a copy of your credit report and clean up any wrong information. If you have any unpaid loans or credit, clean it up. Work to increase your income too.

Paying your bills on time is definitely beneficial to your credit score, however expecting a dramatic increase in your credit score based on timely payments is unrealistic. There is obviously some problems with your credit.

When was the last time you looked at your credit report? Did you know that over 40% of consumers have incorrect negative items on their credit report? Most of these can be removed from your report by simply writing a dispute letter.

The federal trade commision has very good information on how to do this. And best of all it is free information. You are allowed by law to get your credit report for free once each year. The FTC even shows you how to dispute items on your credit for free.

Go to the federal trade commission link http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/repair.shtm and investigate to see if this may help you improve your credit score.

with a score that low, there must be major negatives on your record that won't get erased with just 6 months of paying on time

financing_loans
probally not.

Paying bills on time helps your score a little. Its what you owe that is affecting you. Lets say you have a credit card that has 1000 limit. And you owe 800 on it. That means you have 80% of your equity taken. That kills you.

If you have 5 credit cards with a 1000 limit each. Thats 5000 dollars. It bases not only on credit amounts but how you use it. You should never be over 30%. The more you are over 30% the lower your score goes. So in this case, as soon as you are over 1500 your score goes down. It keeps going down until you are maxed.

This is only one scenario. But thats how it works. So lets say your credit cards are at 80% maxed out. Get them down to 30% and that could very easily increase your score that much.

You can do what is called a rapid rescore it takes 5-7 days. Say something is on your credit you dont like or disagree with, they have have it off and rescore your credit. I think it cost 25 dollars per bureau. Most credit reporting companies can do this. But you dont do it directly. You can and its free but it could take up to 45 days.

Good Luck.

While I'm not a credit expert, I do work with credit reports on a regular basis and I would have to say that it's not likely that paying your bills on time for 6 months is going to get you a 60 point increase. Sorry.

It will help but not by itself. The past dues will still be visible and will still affect your score. It would take some time to overcome the past dues already on there. What would really help you get a better score more quickly is getting the balances down on the credit cards or loans that you owe on. Having your credit cards or loans at high balances (as compared to the available credit) really hurts your score. And balances are updated every thirty days, so you'd see a change in your scores really quickly.

not necessarily, it depends on what comprises your current score, and how far behind you r now. everything late must be brought current first and thenpay everything on time. paying from here on current without being brought up to date first will still show 2-3 months or more behind on each account and will continue to lower your score. got it get current first and then pay on time and your score should start to climb unless you have judgements, collections, and or charge offs that are recent. gl

Probably not. You need to pay everything on time for a year for it to really start effecting your score. They usually give you a 30 day grace period before it starts showing up on your score.

If you've only missed time on a payment or two, you can call the company and ask them to wave it.
