Now for the correct answer.
Paying old collections actually makes your score worse because they become current accounts instead of old accounts.
Derogatory accounts drop off after 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days.
If the creditor has not sued you by now just wait and let it drop off on it's own. |

no...the account will still show up on the report as "derogatory" the only difference is that it will now say "paid collection"
the score will not go up
you would be better off disputing the account with equifax, transunion, and experian. |

Not really. The account was in collections, a bad mark to begin with. Your credit history will show the account paid off instead of the account being placed in P&L (Profit and Loss). Until you can successfully pay your accounts on time and pay them off, your credit score will not rise as fast as you want. |

It will certainly do a lot toward improving it. But it can take between 7-10 years of keeping a clean debt record with on time payments to really boost it. |
