Will people actually sue me if I won alot of money in the lottery?
If I would have won the $273 million Powerball Lottery, will people line up to sue me? They say get a lawyer, but for what reason other than to fight off lawsuits?

Chris
they say get a lawyer because everyone who's ever lent you a helping hand will come back looking for payment......anyone who's ever loaned you a dollar will look you up.....family members who you might not even know (thus trust) will pitch you money making ideas....with just a little "Seed Money" from you.

It just makes sense to cover your back.....you may be able to do it alone, but I'd keep a few lawyers cards handy (and if you win....you'll get plenty of those too).

If you owe them money, yes.

You would need a lawyer and a financial advisor to guide you through the minefield of what to do with your money.

When you have a lot of money, others will seek ways to make claims with trumped up reasons. Unscrupulous lawyers will join in. Many will choose to settle out of court rather than tie their lives up in the time and costs of mounting a defense.

First , they of course need to find trumped up reasons. That can be a challenge. But no doubt, they are out there, looking for easy targets. And money attracts them like moths to a flame.

Yes, people will sue you because you have money and they don't(you have deep pockets) and they will use their most vivid imaginations to figure out how you grievously wounded them. Your second question you answered yourself.

You get a lawyer to advise you on how to handle the financial windfall you've acquired. There's a lot of decisions to make regarding getting the money in installments or taking the cash option. Also you will need a lawyer to help you handle the press and media attention you will receive. When you win that much money you need to be cautious because everyone will want to make a buck off of you.

Hi

They say people will but only if you actually owe them anything such as a Contract other then that it is always good to have one just in case for like the first year after that your all set.

nah.
they wont.

Did you win? cause if you did I may just sue you for being stupid and believing that people will sue you for no reason.
