My best friend is unemployed, I let her use my computer to apply for jobs thinking it may be a little faster. Here's the deal she applied on-line for employment with a cell phone company. She selected on the application that she had never been covicted on any type of crime, which is false. Well guess what they actually responded to her application for employment. They sent an e-mail stating that they have selected her to move to the next step which is a phone interview. She didn't respond,so they called her on the 21st and again today. Should she go through with it ? Will they actually check her info @ this cell phone company? |

They will check. See, just because someone has a "record" it does not necessarily mean that they will not get a particular job. So if someone got a D and D or a DUI, it will not make that much difference.
The problem now is that they caught her lying. I've seen situations where someone was fired simply because he did not list that he had a criminal record. What was ironic was that his record (Drunk and Disorderly) would not have stopped him from being hired. Because he lied, he was fired, regardless of how good an employee he was. |

yes they will check her criminal background and probably her credit information also. Before I was hired for the company that I work for now, they asked if they could check and I said yes when I was hired they gave me a print out of the report they had checked criminal, credit, housing, past employment. I think she should not go through with it and next time tell her to be honest about her application. |

Without a doubt they will. She is dealing with people's personal info and credit/financial info in paying their bills. They will easily be able to find out especially if the crime happened in the state she'll be working in. |

A cell phone company will definately do a back ground check. If she has a felony then no she shouldn't continue with them because she could get into a lot more trouble. If it's something minor and it happened a while ago she could get by with saying she forgot if asked. But she's better off coming clean or not proceeding |

In a word, yes. They will check the veracity of her claims at some point. It could prove very, very costly for her to have lied. It could even lead to yet another conviction, this time for fraud, and result in both fines and jail time. She should come clean immediately; the cops could already be on the way. |

If it's a felony, then no, this is breaking the law, she could go back to jail.
If it's some misdemeaner, then go ahead. Except for some specialized fields, they have no right to ask. |

It all depends was her areest a felony or just a mistamener? If she has a felony their is little chance that she'll get away with it, but telling the truth during the interveiw by saying something like " It's so hard to explain the reasoning behind my arrest on paper,but ect.." and if it's just kids stuff, or no one got hurt it probably won't matter. I have a record, and you'd be suprised how many people don't care. It's never a good idea to not try, it could turn out to be the job she' always dreamed of. |
