Would I be best off going bankrupt?
I owe £32,000 in credit cards and loans, my repayments are £700 a month and I am getting deeper in debt each month. I'm married with 2 kids and I take home about £1000 a month. By the way I rent privately and our car is only worth about £500 so I haven't really got any assets, and the debts are just in my name. I desperately need some advice please.

dont go bankrupt...go to debt management ...payment plan is a good 1 ...they will consolidate all your cards and loans..they will call all you creditors and get the intrested frozen..and write off most of your debt ..you will only pay what you can per mth ..and will be debt free in 5 yrs ..good luck

Sharon
NO.... I don't think you need to go bankrupt. But you do need to learn how to manage your finances. I would suggest checking out a book called... "the total money makeover"

good luck

oh.. and don't give any money to the people that say they can reduce your credit debt for you.... that's something you can do on your own... you got into it... get yourself out of it.

If a person has accumulated a large amount of credit card debt due to multiple credit cards, the need for a proper counseling for credit card debt consolidation can't be understated. A person seeking credit counseling can get it from two types of organizations. The professional or commercial organizations, and the non-profit organizations. Filing for bankruptcy doesn`t necessarily mean ALL your debts will be wiped out . In addition , the bankruptcy goes on your record and will often stay there .............. for good , unlike what you may have heard .

Once you have filed , your life will change drastically . NO ONE will give you credit ! You`ll have to pay CASH , for anything and everything ............... and I mean EVERYTHING !

If you don`t have the cash , you don`t get the goods , plain and simple . Ten or fifteen years later , you MIGHT be able to get a credit card or two , but only from very high-interest issuers . They can charge you up to the legal limit , because they know no one else will accept you .

Even they won`t give you credit unless you can show you own outright a home , newer car , or anything else of major value so they can take it in case of default .

Your best bet is to negotiate with your creditors through a debt management firm and try getting a break on the interest , or in some cases , having the interest forgiven on the individual debts . This can bring your payback time down considerably .

Even this will affect your credit to a large extent , but at least once the debts are paid off , you`ll be in a position to get credit again .

I think that you be better off going bankrupt than taking out more loans and making yourself into even worst debt.

John
Don't go for bankruptch . It will stay on your credit for 7-10 years. So be careful. You can try to consolidate and reduce your loans. It will be better.

I do not know what country you are in. I can only speak from an American perspective. do not go bankrupt. get a second job for a while if you have to. it is tough on the home life but it is better than giving in to it. talk to your wife so there is an understanding of what you up against right now. you will have to work it out together you know. if she can help in some way, all the better. you will have worked it out together and that will only strengthen the relationship. dont leave her out.
