katrina p | Would it help boost my credit rating if i get a credit card? if it rejects me, will it give me bad credit? |

Am not sure if it will make your credit rating worse but it will be on file that you were turned down.
If you are accepted for a card and you pay regularly it will boost your rating. |

applying for a card will normally have a slight negative to your credit (about 5 points) It doesn't matter if you are accepted or not.
If you are accepted, it will increase your available credit, which MAY increase your score, but will not hurt it.
If you are rejected, there is no additional impact to your score. |

if u have never had credit it can be difficult to get started but the more u apply for the better it is for u.if u get a credit card this does help but be careful!! |

Not really - with every credit card, store card and loan your credit rating takes a big hit!! We discovered that when my boyfy kept changing his credit cards to 0% interest ones and it took us a few years before we could get a mortage |

If you already have a bad credit history, don't apply for more credit till you have restored it via clearning your debts and paying your bills. If you add a credit card which rejects you, then your in more trouble as this lowers the score even more. |

yes it would help your credit rating, and no I don't think it would damage your credit if you were rejected. |

applying for the card, whatever the lenders decision, will knock your credit history.
if you are looking to improve your credit history then do something like this-
guarenteed credit card, you pay a deposit up front. it has really high interest rates so make sure you pay it off in full each month. Use it for small transactions every month (I used to buy petrol on mine) and then pay it off WITHOUT FAIL. after about 9 months you have history of always paying credit card on time and should be able to apply for a normal card. |
|

Is that your final answer?
 |
You will only get a credit card if you have some credit and good credit too. If I were you I wouldnt go crazy filling out credit card applications bc it lowers your credit score every time someone checks your credit. So lets say you apply for a credit card> Well the cc ppl have to check your credit to determine if youre eligible. Every time they do this, your credit score will lower. What you should do is get a cc with a limit of 300.00, then buy something that costs 200.000 then pay it off as a whole (200.00) That will boost up your credit limit and your credit score. I know you want a cc but believe me; youre better off without it! |

Yes it will help you, but please be careful. If you are declined it will have a slight effect on your credit rating. |

In the United States, a credit score is a number typically between 300 and 850, based on a statistical analysis of a person's credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of that person, which is the likelihood that the person will pay his or her bills. A credit score is primarily based on credit report information, typically from the three major credit bureaus.
Lenders, such as banks and credit card companies, use credit scores to evaluate the potential risk posed by lending money to consumers and to mitigate losses due to bad debt. Lenders use credit scores to determine who qualifies for a loan, at what interest rate, and what credit limits. The use of credit or identity scoring prior to authorizing access or granting credit is an implementation of a trusted system. While the most widely known score in the United States is FICO (which is most widely used in the mortgage industry), there are many others, such as NextGen, VantageScore and the CE Score. |

Getting a new card will help your score by expanding the amount of credit available. Getting declined for a card doesn't hurt you but you might want to find out why you were turned down. |

To answer your question. It would help to get a credit card, ONLY if used properly. And the seecond part of the question, if you're rejected it won't give you bad credit, UNLESS you apply a bunch of times. I have a couple of pointers to help you build instant credit.
1. If you have a close friend or family member with excellent credit, ask them to add you as an authorized user on one of their oldest credit cards in excellent standing. They can keep and destroy the card that would be in your name and you own't be using the account at all, as this would only be for reporting purposes to build credit for you. The ideal account to be added to is one that's been opened up for at least 3 years, with a low balance (30% or less of the available credit), high limit, and perfect payment history. Once added, the activity from that account, will reflect on your report giving you instant credit history.
2. Apply for a secured card. You might want to check with your bank or credit union to see if they offer these. You can think of this as a way to build credit with a savings account, because you would have to put a deposit upfront usually tied to a savings account to get the same amount of the deposit in a line of credit. The deposit is used in case you become so delinquent that the account is charged off and sent to collections that they would have to use the deposit to offset what you owed on it. But if you're trying to build credit, you DON'T want that to happen. Keep in mind that you'll get the deposit back at some point(usually after a year) and a better card if you pay on time and keep the balance down, so it would help your cause to try to boost the credit line evey once in a while by adding to the deposit. This way it shows that you're responsible with a high limit which may attract other potential creditors. I suggest getting a total of 3 credit cards (2 major, i.e Visa ,MasterCard, and one dept store i.e. Target, Sears, etc) and no more after that.
I posted a link to Orchard Bank. They offer cards for people either building or rebuilding credit. They even offer secured cards in case you're not approved for a regular one.
I hope that this helps,
Good Luck! |

yeah, yeah what they said, but if you have no credit history or close to none you should get a card, never go over half your limit and pay at least one dollar more than min balance due and your credit score will start to grow |

You can get a secured card, which means until you prove your credit, you leave the amount of the credit card limit in the bank. I think mine was $500 until I established credit |

there are better ways to boost your credit.
go to www.josephsangl.com. tell him i sent you. ask him how he recommends to build your credit.
To the best of my knowledge if you try to get any form of credit and are declined it takes points off your score - each time you have a credit inquiry on your record... |
