♥Lucky♥ | Would you put a small car loan on a credit card...? |
... if the interest rate on the card (9.25) is smaller than the interest rate offered by the bank (11.25)?
The amount is $5K. This will NOT exceed my credit limit. I would pay it down monthly just like a regular loan.
Are there any repurcussions that I may not be aware of? |

I have. Just make sure you are never late on paymenst and try to pay a little extra each month. Some credit card companies will increased their interest (A LOT) if you are late even once. |

Never get a loan on a car. Ever! Pay cash all at once. If you have to drive an older car for an extra few months, deal with it.
It will save you thousands in the end. |

i think you should better off save litttle money and then you should try to take a loan |

Car dealers won't accept credit cards because you can dispute the charge. Also, they won't pay the credit card fee. |

I can think of a pretty major repercussion - the credit card company can increase your rate significantly any time they please. If you suddenly charge something huge and are now carrying a much higher balance, they are likely to raise your rate. Did you try going to other banks to try to get approved for a loan? That rate is ridiculously high; unless you have bad credit. |

Bank is locked in at that rate but credit cards can increase their rate with out notice. |

I am not sure about all of the ramifications, but to begin with your payments towards this account would be substantial in order to pay back the amount, and whereas with a bank loan, you can see the end in sight as bank loans do not change, but a credit cards' terms would. I understand that the bank loan finance charge is built into the monthly payments, with the credit card, it is built into the balance. Since I am not an accountant, you may want to talk to someone who is more knowledgeable with finances before you proceed as to what has a longer payment life. |

The BIG question is will the seller accept a credit card for the payment. Comapnies that accept credit cards typically pay about 2% of the transaction to accept a credit card. |

There are many benefits for using your credit card. One is working on other people's money, in this case if you get a loan from the bank, you will pay more, plus your car will be their collateral, with a credit card, there is no lien on the vehicle. Therefore, if it was to break down eventually and you had to put more money into what it is worth to sell, you do not have to come out of pocket any money to get the lien removed. If there is any negative equity in the long term, you can pay it off, rather then roll it into a new car loan. Only use your credit card if you are a very disciplined person, credit is getting harder to get now days and you will be asked to pay a lot less then you would from the auto loan, each month, figure out the payment of the auto loan, and then pay that amount each month towards the credit card, and don't put anymore purchases on the same card that could effect the interest and pay-off |

Absolutely! You may want to call you credit card company and see if they offer any promotional rates on balance transfers. You may be able to get a much longer rate. Possibly as low as 1%! Just be careful if you have purchases or anything else on the account because most credit card companies post your payments to the lowest percentage rate before the higher rate. It will however save you a lot of interest, which we all like! All you would need to provide the credit card company with is your bank routing and checking account numbers. It could take up to a week to be deposited into the checking account and then you can use the funds however you choose! |

It would depend on the interest rate. |
