The is no central database. Each insurance company keeps its own records separately.
If the policy was first issued within the last ten years, then you may be able to learn from the "medical information bureau" where the person applied for insurance. You would then contact each of those companies individually to see which one, if any, issued a policy.
If the policy was first issued over ten years ago, then the M.I.B. would not have any record. Your only option would then be to contact every life insurance company and ask them each if they issued a policy. However, not all of them will respond in time for the funeral. You will have to pay for the funeral first, and then try to get the insurance money when you find the right company. |

Finding that policy will be difficult.
If you want you can call some of the big companies like Allstate, State Farm, Prudential, Liberty Mutual, Transamerica Life and ask them if your relative had a policy with them. It would be a lot of work and you may get nowhere but that is what I would do. And, keep looking. There is no one on the internet to find that info.

If there is a policy, it would be in that person's personal records. A life insurance policy will pay benefits only to the named beneficiary(ies). |

If you can't find it in the person's records, bank, etc. then they probably did not have one. There is no central location to search for this information. |

No, there's no database, there's no internet site you can look it up on. No agency collects that information. It's private, protected by the privacy laws.
If it's not in their valuable papers, and they don't have any cancelled checks paying an insurance company, then most likely they don't have it.
If they DID have life insurance, at the very least, they'd get a statement once a year. So change the mailing address at the post office to the executor of the estate, and wait for something to show up. You CAN file a claim a year later. |
