RF T | AIG is not good insurance? |
my vehicle was stolen a little over a month ago and was recovered, aig said they would have to investigate....well they sent out a investigator to speak to me now they want me to talk to their attorney and make a sworn statement. does anyone know if this is a commen thing? 30 days now without a vehicle and nothing but attitudes from them. thanks Additional Details update: also i contacted my claim adjuster and told her that i feel like they are giving me the run around and stalling and that i would like my vehicle back, her reply to me was the only way to get my vehicle back is by cancelling my claim, sounds like their holdong my vehicle as hostage. |

Sworn statements, credit checks, background investigations, and more are all common parts of the claims process following a vehicle theft. These practices are not unique to AIG. That said, our experience with AIG claims has been poor at best. Over the past 3 years or so that our agency has represented them, we have only placed a handful of policies with them for several reasons. Their rates have never been very competitive in our area. That coupled with their poor claims handling and negative public image is a likely sign that they will soon be out of the insurance business. |

This is not legal advice, but my opinion as a 20 year claims professional. Your carrier appears to suspect fraud in this case. You are being summoned to an Examination Under Oath, based upon your description. If you did not do anything wrong then you have nothing to fear. Simply tell the truth. The EUO will be conducted before a court reporter. If they ask you to bring any documents (receipts, etc.) make sure to bring them. Once you have completed the EUO the carrier will have to make a call; either to deny the claim, file a declaratory relief action, or pay it. I would give them 7 days after the EUO and then demand payment in writing. If they do not do so, I would then contact the Department of Insurance and file a complaint as this will likely motivate the carrier to make a decision one way or the other. Good luck. |

All insurance companies have the right to investigate. If you have nothing to hide then just cooperate and everything will be fine. |

AIG takes a very large bailout from the Feds (taxpayers $$), then spend a lot on trips and stuff?
They're a rip-off, going to screw you over, you will see that their first interest is in making a profit from you more than helping you get your car back or paying out insurance money. |
