You get it from the guy that writes the rest of your business insurance.
What it costs you, depends on the type of business, the class of work your employees do, and your payrolls. There's a "minimum premium", and after that, it's straight payroll. It's audited at the end of the year, so if your actual payrolls are higher, you get charged more. If they're lower, you get a refund, but it will never drop below the "minimum premium".
Regarding what some of the other people said - if you subcontract out the work, and your sub is injured, and doesn't have workers comp, YOU are legally on the hook for medical payments and lost wages. It doesn't MATTER if you have a policy or not, you are STILL responsible for the medical payments and lost wages. |

Well, in Texas, it's the Texas Workforce Commission, a state-run department that also takes care of state unemployment taxes and forms.
Start with your state's web site. It's usually going to be something like...
www.state.(put your state's 2-letter abbreviation here without the parentheses).us
Good luck! |

Each state has different requirements concerning workers compensation. A friend of mine has much less expensive premiums in his state than I do in mine. Check with your local yellow pages under insurance agents or brokers. They often list when they write workers comp insurance. You may also check your local state employment office. |

You sure got some crazy advice in these answers! Workers Comp has different premiums depending on the kind of work your employee will do. Someone who does roofing will cost more than someone standing behind a counter selling, for instance. Call your insurance agent. He/she will ask you a lot of questions about your business and what your employee will do, and then get a quote for you. Also, talk to your accountant. He will talk to you about your business deductions- which would include workers comp for your employee, and also will set up withholding taxes, etc for your employee. You will have additional costs, but perhaps you will be able to take on more work, with help. Good luck! |

I hate to say it . but you need to catch the rat in the trap. when the cat gets the mouse . take him for drinks and you only drink pepsi or coffee. Let him make an a@@ of himself. When He starts to drive you have him in your paws. Keep yourself sober and tell cops that he is too drunk to drive. You are sober and He goes to the pokey! You will be sober and do not drink anything .just water, coffee, or pop. Trust me tou will be compensated, call merrica1963@yahoo.com |
