Well, it's not ok, but it's probably legal, because if/when you bring him to court, he'll probably have another reason.
Here in the USA, employers aren't required to provide any health benefits at all. |

The federal labor laws forbid any employer to discriminate on the basis of age. Get a lawyer to just look at the case, ask him/her if it's worth it. I got $5 says they take it. |

Call your state's labor board.
Then get an attorney for discrimination. Repost your question under law. You may get better answers. |

Even if you are an at-will employee, there are certain things that you still cannot be terminated for. Such as: if the termination violates a statute (ADA, if you expose your employer that they are violating environmental regulations, etc). I don't thing insurance costs fall under the ADA unless you are disabled. This is something for a lawyer and the court to address. |

I don' think so. YOu should sue his *** for every penny he/she has. |

that is NOT ok! maybe if he had given you a different reason & kept that real reason to himself. do you think that you can get him to say it again & secretly record it, or get him to put it in writing? & if youre fired OSHA says the its law that they give you your last pay right then & there, so i hope that you got that! |

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination based on age. The ADEA's protections apply to both employees and job applicants. Under the ADEA, it is unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment, including hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training. |

It may be considered discrimination.
If you were an at-will employee however, which you likely were, you signed something that stated that you and your employer can terminate your employment with or without reason.
So, you could take them to court but they may say that's not really the reason that they let you go and get off the hook.
I would consult with an attorney. |

Check your contract. It's actually pretty common for people to be fired if their insurance is costing the company too much; it's rare for the boss to admit that's the reason. However, it could be written in your contract that there is a maximum you can have without risking your job.
The best you could do is call a lawyer and talk to him or her about it. This WILL cost you, but they can tell you the best way to handle this.
P.S. I used to live in Oklahoma. Based on what happened when I lived there, I'm not surprised this is happening to you. I'm sorry. |
