The first step is to research the different insurance companies in your area. Some companies only allow you to write their insurance (captive) and other companies allow brokers to write it. You may want to start an independent agency. This way if one company's rates go up you can rewrite your customers with a different company.

You didn't even say wehre you're from! Every place has its own rules and regulations. Of course, basically, you have to know a lot about insurance and the products, the companies that you wish to deal with, you have to have a network of agents ready at hand, you have to have at least a couple of bulk clients with you, and of course you have to have guts. Capital is not extensive in an agency. You only need to have a small office with a few staff. Think about this: Wouldnt it be better to be just an ordinary insurance agent? |

In California they have INS schools 6 to 9 months program to get a licence start as a customer rep start the school and progress.A very good start is Eastwood INS Good Luck. |

in todays market...id say your goign to have a rather large funding to get thing rolling, that and you'd probably fare well if you were a partner of some sort to an already established firm, remember NOONE want to put money in a firm they don't know nor have even heard about. |

You need to get a license to sell insurance, and you need to find an insurance company that will let you sell their insurance (aka, act as their agent). The first is relatively easy, the second can be quite difficult, depending on the type of insurance you want to sell, and your geographic location. |
