Anyone ever heard of insurance paying your hospital MORE than what was billed?
Our insurance company paid $500.00 dollars more than the actual bill plus they want us to pay a 20% copay! Anyone been through this before!!!!!!
Additional Details
I need to add to this that I have contacted the insurance company and they twll me everything was processed correctly. They are basing the copay-on what the hospital actually billed. This all just seems so crazy to me ~ no wonder insurance is so high! I have been battleing with the insurance company for four months now on this one!

Keep in mind the following:

When you have a PPO - before you pay any bills make sure the Explaination of Benefits (EOB) and the hospital bills match. This ensures you get the network discount.

It sounds to me like the billing process has not been completed as of yet. There may have been additional providers involved - anethesia, therapy, labs/diagnostics etc. When you are hospitalized you have a "superbill" which details all the charges by the hospital - then you have additional bills from the actual providers - surgens etc. DO NOT pay any bills until the EOB's and the Bills match. Match them up by provider and Date of Service (DOS).

What? Your co pay is your co pay. If it is something other than 20%, then your insurance company cannot require you to pay more than it actually is. Why they overpaid is a mystery but it happens. I would query them closely.

No....

Don't forget that saying...

If its too good to be true...it probably is.

Most insurance companies pay based on an allowed, or contracted, amount. When it comes to hospital bills, many insurance companies will calculate the allowed amount based on the reason for your stay, what you had done there, your age, etc. The allowed amount can be higher than the total charges, but this happens very rarely. If the insurance company has calculated the amount correctly, then it's within their contract with the hospital to pay this allowed amount.

You may want to speak to the hospital to determine how much they say you owe them.

Yup... Some hospitals have contracts with insurance that state they receive a set $ amount, for a specific procedure, regardless the amount billed. Its becoming less common, but it still exists.

I think somebody at the insurance company messed up. I'd give them a call.
